Abstract: A drag reducer to be mounted on the rear face of a truck or other vehicle. It is comprised of an enclosed bag in the shape of a truncated cone with one or more elastic cord(s) encircling it. Air is introduced into the drag reducer upon forward motion of the vehicle via a tube, the open end of which is facing the direction of motion. As air pressure is increased in the drag reducer with increasing forward velocity the tension in the surface of the bag causes the elastic cord(s) to be extended allowing the drag reducer to reach its fully expanded shape. At slow driving speeds the elastic cord(s) contract and prevent the drag reducer from falling or being blown by cross winds over the rear signal lights or license plate and from touching the road in the case of larger more aerodynamically effective drag reducers.

Abstract: An engine starter/generator has a rotor which rotates on excitation caused by an exciting winding, a speed reducer which reduces the speed of rotation of the rotor, a first clutch which transmits the rotation of the rotor, the speed of which has been reduced through the speed reducer, to an output shaft of an engine, and a second clutch which is disposed between the engine output shaft and the rotor to connect together these two members when the speed of rotation of the engine output shaft is greater than that of the rotor. The speed reducer and at least either one of the first and second clutches are disposed substantially axially in line with one another. This arrangement reduces the radial dimension of the engine starter/generator. It can, therefore, be disposed with in the engine room of a vehicle without difficulty.

In the internal meshing type planetary gear reducer, each inner pin is provided with cutouts (26A) on inner and outer sides thereof in a radial direction of the external gear, or each inner-pin hole is provided with cutouts on inner and outer sides thereof in a radial direction of the flange, and only the inner pins which serve to transmit a torque at a predetermined range of the contacting location are arranged to be in contact with the inner-pin holes. With such construction, there is little resistance between the moving parts and the forcedly resistive sliding motion can be eliminated, whereby the torque transmission can be performed smoothly.

Abstract: A method of reducing friction or drag on a gas, e.g. natural gas, flowing in a pipeline wherein a drag reducer is injected into said pipeline to form a thin film on the internal surface or wall of the pipeline. The drag reducer in the present invention is selected from a class of chemical compounds which are comprised of a molecular structure having a polar group at one end thereof which bonds onto said inner wall of the pipeline and a non-polar group at the other which smoothes the gas-solid interface between said wall and said flowing gas thereby reducing gas turbulence at said interface.

Abstract: A gear speed reducer having an input shaft formed with a worm which meshs with a worm gear mounted on an output shaft disposed a fixed distance from and at right angles with respect to the input shaft. The worm is provided with an involute thread that progressively becomes thinner from one end to the other end of the worm. An adjustable cartridge rotatably mounts one end of the shaft and the cartridge is adjustably mounted to permit axial adjustment of the shaft to bring a new section of the thread of the worm into engagement with the worm gear to eliminate backlash therebetween. The adjustment is quickly and easily performed without having to remove the reducer from service.

Reducer fittings having standard size, large diameter ends, are provided with variously sized smaller diameter ends to selectively reduce the flow. The axes of the motor 4 and speed reducer 6 are further disposed concentrically with the turning axis of a turning body 2, and a harness 8 is disposed piercing the hollow parts of the motor 4 and speed reducer 6. The harness 8 thereby passes the turning axis of the turning body 2, so that abrasion and disconnection caused by sliding motion can be eliminated, and a turning device can be made compact.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eddy current speed reducer which has a mechanism for automatically returning a magnet support cylinder to a non-braking position, prevents the occurrence of drag torque at the time of non-braking, and possesses a simple device configuration. SOLUTION: The eddy current speed reducer is equipped with a brake drum 7 coupled with a rotating shaft, an immovable guide cylinder disposed in the brake drum and provided with an inner cavity with a rectangular cross section, a magnet support cylinder 14 provided in the inner cavity, a plurality of magnets 24 provided on the outer peripheral surface of the magnet support cylinder at equal intervals in the peripheral direction so that polarities alternately change, and a plurality of ferromagnetism parts provided on positions corresponding to the magnets. The respective ferromagnetism parts 121 and coupled parts 122 form an integral ferromagnetic 15, and an actuator 20 is provided which is connected to the magnet support cylinder 14 so as to rotate the magnet support cylinder 14 in the peripheral direction and in the direction opposite to the usual rotation of the brake drum 7 from the non- braking position, in which two adjacent magnets with different polarities are disposed partly facing to the shared ferromagnetism part 121 to the braking positions opposed to the respective magnets. Abstract: A novel vertical drive assembly for a storage and retrieval vehicle wherein a cable drive motor is horizontally juxtaposed between a lift cable winding and unwinding drum. The vertical drive assembly is modularly assembled on a frame and is attachable and detachable from the vehicle as a unit. The vertical drive assembly comprises, in seriatim, the motor, a belt drive sprocket wheel, a drive belt, a belt driven sprocket wheel, and, juxtaposed and on the same axis as the driven sprocket wheel, an input adapter, a speed reducer, and the drum. The motor is attached to the frame by jacks used to raise and lower the motor to adjust tension in the belt. To stay within the width of the vehicle, the input adapter and speed reducer are at least partly disposed within the core of the drum with the speed reducer providing a bearing for the drum. To reduce starting inertia, sprocket wheels are fabricated from lightweight material. Drum supports comprise louvered blades to induce air flow over the speed reducer when the drum rotates. In one embodiment, a concentric disc, spring actuated, electrically-released brake is mounted on the axis of the motor when the length of the combination motor and brake is less than the width of the vehicle. In another embodiment, a disc brake comprising pneumatic release and spring actuation is juxtaposed between the driven sprocket wheel and the input adapter. Interlocks prevent the vehicle from operating when air pressure is below a predetermined level.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the precision of recognition of the speech recognition section of a speech recognition remote controller by taking out an output approximate to noise component from an adaptable noise reducer and by applying subtraction to the output. CONSTITUTION:Main input from a microphone 3 is sent to adder 15 via input terminal 10A of adaptable noise reducer 10. On the other hand, as a signal corresponding to the speech from speaker 8 which becomes a noise component, a speech signal from speech output circuit 6 is sent as a reference signal to adaptable filter 16 via input terminal 10C of adaptable noise reducer 10. This output is sent as a subtract signal to adder 15. With this, the noise component of main input is reduced, and is output to speech recognition unit 4 via output terminal 10B of adaptable noise reducer 10. Since speech recognition unit 4 executes speech recognition processing and command interpretation for the input for which noise is reduced, speech recognition processing can be executed highly precisely.

The speed reduction ratio of the driving motor 42 during the rotation in the clutch engaging direction is set smaller than that during the rotation in the clutch releasing direction. CONSTITUTION:An additional mass (a), movably supported in a horizontal direction, is set up especially in the top part of a multistory building B through a hybrid dynamic vibration reducer comprising an actuator (b), load cell (c), damper (d), spring (e) and a load cell (f). An active dynamic vibration reducing mechanism of the building B is constituted of the actuator (b). In this way, a vibroisolation effect over a wide range can be displayed by small external energy.

In addition, the planetary gears 12 are provided with both a tooth profile section c15 having (s) teeth which is meshed with the movable internal gear 21 and a tooth profile section b14 having (r) teeth which is meshed with the stationary internal gear 10, at the both end sections of them, and the side surface of a gear profile forming arm section is provided with a gear profile section a13 having (t) teeth which is meshed with the sun gear 4. In this case, they are formed in such a way as to be (t)>(r) and (t)>(s), and they are so constituted that the sun gear 4 acts as an input one and movable internal gear 21 acts as an output one.

The utility model can adopt variable distance step feed mechanism, a cylindric type following cylinder, a crawler type creel stand, a rotary device, a combined type probe, a rocking arm type marking machine and a vertical type walking carriage. In a second embodiment, the speed reducer is manually tiltable in the frame by direct manual rotation of a shaft on which the speed reducer is mounted. In a third embodiment, the speed reducer through which the work is rotated is mounted on a shaft which is connected to a handwheel through another speed reducer. In a fourth embodiment, the speed reducer through which the work is rotated is tilted by a servo motor operating through a speed reducer.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To simplify constitution and ease maintenance and inspection by supporting a rotary body on a main body frame side, and fitting a motor with a speed reducer with the output part, made as a hollow axis, of the speed reducer engaged with the rotary axis of the rotary body from the outside, in the drive device of the roller of a belt conveyer. CONSTITUTION:The drive device 80 of tapered rollers 10 and 11 supported with a main body frame is composed by integrating a motor 81 and a speed reducer 82, and also the output part of the speed reducer 82 is formed as a hollow axis 83. The output part is engaged from the outside with the outer side protruded part of the roller axis 17 of the tapered rollers 10 and 11, and the roller axis 17 and the hollow axis 83 are integrated with a key 84. The main body of the speed reducer 82 is linked to a supporting frame 13B via a torque arm 85. This constitution permits simple configuration and easy maintenance and inspection with the need for a driving wheel body etc. eliminated.
