TL;DR: A self-focusing array antenna model is described with a brief synopsis of an experimental program which was carried out to evaluate the technique and to demonstrate the principle by means of an operating model.
Abstract: A self-focusing array antenna model is described with a brief synopsis of an experimental program which was carried out to evaluate the technique and to demonstrate the principle by means of an operating model. The results of tests performed on linear and planar versions of the array are given in the form of field patterns. They show the successful operation of self-focusing in the presence of several factors including multiple targets, extended targets, moving targets and simulated atmospheric inhomogeneities.

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel circularly polarized patch array fed by a slotted waveguide is proposed, which can be viewed as a waveguide-fed slot antenna that is covered with a patch array.
Abstract: A novel circularly polarized patch array fed by a slotted waveguide is proposed. Optimized circular polarization is achieved with a split truncated patch flexibly. Improved bandwidth and efficiency are obtained by utilizing the feeding waveguide. The proposed array can also be viewed as a waveguide-fed slot antenna that is covered with a patch array. Once the element admittance characteristic is determined, it can be conveniently designed just like waveguide-fed slot arrays. Parametric study on a circularly polarized element at 10.5 GHz is conducted to provide an instructive design guideline. Then, a 1 $\,\times\,$ 10 circularly polarized array is developed. Measured impedance bandwidth of 4%, axial-ratio (AR) bandwidth of 3.2%, and a gain of 15.94 dB with aperture efficiency of 62% have been obtained, which demonstrate desirable array performance.

TL;DR: In this paper, a low-cost FET, oscillating CPW-fed microstrip antennas working at /spl sim/4 GHz have been presented, which are compact, easy to fabricate while providing uniform radiation patterns with cross-polarisation levels below -17 dB.
Abstract: Operating with a low-cost FET, oscillating CPW-fed microstrip antennas working at /spl sim/4 GHz have been presented. Because the design is based on slot or slot loop apertures, no via holes are required, These oscillating antennas are compact, easy to fabricate while providing uniform radiation patterns with cross-polarisation levels below -17 dB. Active integrated power combining arrays or active integrated phased arrays are possible future applications of these radiating elements.

TL;DR: In this article, a systematic theory on the phase efficiency of planar reflective array antennas is given and two kinds of arrays with element phase shifting values chosen from a continuous or quantised range are studied.
Abstract: A reflective array consists of a large number of passive phase shifting elements placed on a plane or a conformal surface. Each element provides a total reflection to an incident wave with a certain phase shift. By choosing the phase shift of each element properly, the energy of an incident plane wave can be focused into a feedhorn placed in front of the array, thus producing a reflector antenna. A systematic theory on the phase efficiency of planar reflective array antennas is given and two kinds of arrays with element phase shifting values chosen from a continuous or quantised range are studied. The relationship between the phase efficiency, element size and the focal-length-to-diameter ratio is discussed. The influences of phase quantisation error and the manufacturing and installation tolerance on the phase efficiency are analysed using probability theory. A new reflective phase correcting array with multilayer dielectric tiles is presented. Experimental results agree well with the theoretical predictions.
