TL;DR: In this paper, the back surface reflectors formed in conjunction with separate grid finger configuration back contacts are more effective than those formed by full back metallization of the reflector material.
Abstract: This invention is concerned with reducing the operating temperature and increasing the output of a solar cell. A solar cell (10) constructed in accordance with the invention carries electrodes (22) in a grid finger pattern on its back surface (12). These electrodes are sintered at the proper temperature to provide good ohmic contact. After sintering, a reflective material (24) is deposited on the back surface by vacuum evaporation. Thus, the application of the back surface reflector is separate from the back contact formation. Back surface reflectors formed in conjunction with separate grid finger configuration back contacts are more effective than those formed by full back metallization of the reflector material.

TL;DR: In this article, an accurate and cost effective heliostat array and method of use is disclosed, which consists of a plurality of mirrors arrayed in a common plane, a number of reflector positioning arms, and a rigid positioning plate coupled to each of the reflectors via a positioning arm.
Abstract: An accurate and cost effective heliostat array and method of use is disclosed. The heliostat array in the preferred embodiment comprises a plurality of mirrors arrayed in a common plane, a plurality of reflector positioning arms, and a rigid positioning plate. The positioning plate, which is coupled to each of the reflectors via a positioning arm, is adapted to simultaneously aim each reflector using as few as one or two actuators. When the positioning arms forms the base of an isosceles triangle with one leg aligned with a ray directed to the sun and the other equal length leg aligned with a ray directed to the receiver, the positioning plate has the shape of a Conchoid of Nicomedes surface of revolution, which enables the heliostat array to simultaneously orient all of the mirrors to precisely focus incident sunlight from anywhere in the celestial hemisphere onto a common focal point.

TL;DR: In this article, the spectral domain moment method was used to analyze homogeneous reflective phase shifters with conducting rings as elements, and numerical and experimental results were given for a novel phase correcting Fresnel zonal reflector based on this model.
Abstract: An array of conducting elements printed on a grounded dielectric substrate functions as an electromagnetic phase shifter. With a fixed substrate and a given operating frequency, the phase shift is determined by the array parameters. In the paper, the spectral domain moment method model for analyzing homogeneous reflective phase shifters with conducting rings as elements is presented, and numerical and experimental results are given. A novel phase correcting Fresnel zonal reflector based on this model is reported. A 43% maximum antenna efficiency and -22 dB sidelobe level were measured in X-band. The bandwidth of the reflector is estimated to be greater than 10%. >

TL;DR: In this paper, a multi-level probe for sonic range measurements utilizes a plurality of parallel reflectors that each include an opening arranged coaxially about a beam of ultrasonic energy transmitted along a reference axis from an associated transducer.
Abstract: A multi-level probe for sonic range measurements utilizes a plurality of parallel reflectors that each include an opening arranged coaxially about a beam of ultrasonic energy transmitted along a reference axis from an associated transducer. The opening in each reflector permits most of the sonic energy to pass to a subsequent reflective surface, while the periphery about the opening provides echo signals for determining physical conditions in the environment through which the sonic energy has passed. A novel system is used for determining physical conditions that are a function of time differences between signals from different reflectors, calculated with a highly efficient digital signal processing algorithm.

TL;DR: A reflective Ag alloy film for reflectors has an average surface roughness of 2.0 nm or less and contains a rare earth element (such as Nd) in a content in the range of 0.1 to 3.0 at % as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A reflective Ag alloy film for reflectors, which has excellent surface flatness and shows high reflectivity even under a heating environment and a reflector. The reflective Ag alloy film for reflectors has an average surface roughness of 2.0 nm or less and contains a rare earth element (such as Nd) in a content in the range of 0.1 to 3.0 at %, or further at least one selected from Au, Pd, Cu and Pt in a content in the range of 0.5 to 5.0 at %. The reflector comprises the above reflective Ag alloy film formed on a substrate.
