TL;DR: In this article, a two-dimensional super-directive antenna with one active element and a reflector made of resonant scatterers was constructed, and it was shown that changes of the angular width of a slot in an unclosed cylinder (or in several unclosed cylinders), within /spl plusmn/1%, do not lead to the destruction of the superdirective resonance.
Abstract: A brief introduction to the problem of superdirective radiation in antenna theory, and a solution to the problem of wave scattering from a structure, formed by resonant scatterers, is presented. The paper describes construction of a two-dimensional superdirective antenna with one active element, and a reflector made of resonant scatterers-unclosed cylinders proposed by Veremey and Shestopalov (see Radio Science, vol.26, no.2, p. 631-636, 1991). Physical phenomena, which cause the effect of superdirective radiation, are studied in detail. It is shown that the interaction between the resonant elements leads to the possibility of exciting a mode characterized by a high level of reactive power, in the vicinity of a passive structure. Particular attention is paid to the sensitivity of the superdirective antenna, and to tolerance constraints. It is shown that changes of the angular width of a slot in an unclosed cylinder (or in several unclosed cylinders), within /spl plusmn/1%, do not lead to the destruction of the superdirective resonance. >

TL;DR: In this article, a measuring apparatus for measuring the density of smoke and the like comprising a light source for emitting a beam of radiant energy which is directed through the smoke which is to be measured, and a first reflector positioned in the path of said beam for redirecting said beam, is described.
Abstract: A measuring apparatus for measuring the density of smoke and the like comprising a light source for emitting a beam of radiant energy which is directed through the smoke which is to be measured, and a first reflector positioned in the path of said beam for redirecting said beam Chopping means are movable periodically into the path of the beam for interrupting the passage of the beam to the first reflector means A second reflector means on the chopping means is movable in the path of the beam when the beam is interrupted by said chopping means Means are provided for directing the light reflected by the first reflector means and the reflector means to a light sensitive means This invention relates to optical measuring apparatus and particularly to measuring apparatus for measuring the optical transmittance of smoke and the like

TL;DR: In this paper, the partial reflector is positioned between the transparent conductor and the movable mirror to decrease the capacitance of the display element without changing a gap distance between the partially reflector and the moving mirror.
Abstract: A display element, such as an interferometric modulator, comprises a transparent conductor configured as a first electrode and a movable mirror configured as a second electrode. Advantageously, the partial reflector is positioned between the transparent conductor and the movable mirror. Because the transparent conductor serves as an electrode, the partial reflector does not need to be conductive. Accordingly, a greater range of materials may be used for the partial reflector. In addition, a transparent insulative material, such as a dielectric, may be positioned between the transparent conductor and the partial reflector in order to decrease a capacitance of the display element without changing a gap distance between the partial reflector and the movable mirror. Thus, a capacitance of the display element may be reduced without changing the optical characteristics of the display element.

TL;DR: In this paper, an interferometric modulating device with a spacing layer positioned between the fixed reflector and the electrode is provided to prevent shorting between the movable reflector between the electrode and the reflector.
Abstract: An interferometric modulating device is provided with a spacing layer positioned between the fixed reflector and the electrode. The spacing layer prevents shorting between the movable reflector and the electrode and provides a filtering cavity to improve color saturation.

TL;DR: In this article, a high temperature gas turbine component for use in the gas flow path that comprises a specular optical reflector coating system is applied to the surface of the component that forms a boundary for hot combustion gases.
Abstract: A high temperature gas turbine component for use in the gas flow path that comprises a specular optical reflector coating system. A thin specular optical reflector coating system is applied to the gas flow path of the component, that is, the surface of the component that forms a boundary for hot combustion gases. The component typically includes a thermal barrier coating overlying the high temperature metallic component that permits the component to operate at elevated temperatures. The thermal barrier coating must be polished in order to provide a surface that can suitably reflect the radiation into the gas flow path. The thin reflector coating system comprises a thin high temperature and corrosion resistant refractory stabilizing layer, which is applied over a thin reflective metal layer, which is applied over a thin high temperature and corrosion resistant refractory sealing layer. The coating system is applied over the polished thermal barrier coating by a process that can adequately adhere the reflector to the polished surface without increasing the roughness of the surface. The coating system reflects radiation back into the hot gas flow path or into the atmosphere. The reflected radiation is not focused onto any other hardware component. The design of the component is such that the radiation is returned to the gas flow path or sent to the atmosphere rather than absorbed into a component that only serves to increase the temperature of such a component.
