Abstract: A system of N statistically identical machines is modeled using renewal theory through a unique architecture and state space. The model is very useful in evaluating flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) in particular. Each machine consists of multiple part types that are subject to individual failure. A multiple stage repair process composed of integrable sojourn time distributions requires access to spare parts to repair down machines. A performability measure is used to gauge system effectiveness for this partially degradable system, and an example is given.

TL;DR: The random version of the batch arrival with individual service case naturally results from random branching of individuals following a batch service process, and is developed with the intent of improving the modeling results for downstream workstations following abatch service process.
Abstract: In this paper we consider three standard batch arrival/service systems and develop renewal process approximations for the inter-departure time squared coefficient of variations. The systems considered are: (i) batch arrival with individual service; (ii) batching for setup reduction for a single server system; and (iii) batch processing. The random version of the batch arrival with individual service case naturally results from random branching of individuals following a batch service process. This case is also developed with the intent of improving the modeling results for downstream workstations following a batch service process.

TL;DR: In this article, a renewal theory approach is proposed to derive the cost model for two dependent processes and construct the economic individual X chart and cause-selecting chart to monitor the two processes.
Abstract: Proposes a renewal theory approach to derive the cost model for two dependent processes. Thus, constructs the economic individual X chart and cause‐selecting chart to monitor the two processes. They may be used to maintain the process with minimum cost and effectively distinguish which component of the processes is out of control. The optimal design parameters of these control charts can be determined by minimizing the cost model using a simple grid search method. Gives an example to illustrate the design procedure and application of the economic individual X chart and cause‐selecting chart.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the results obtained from straight line approximation of the related renewal function is inaccurate and one of the two more accurate approaches should be used instead.
