TL;DR: In this article, an exact expression for the mean rate of coincidence registration is developed using techniques from renewal theory, and it is shown that the traditional approximate rate, in certain situations, leads to the overestimation of the actual rate.

TL;DR: A discrete-time single-server finite-buffer queueing system with multiple vacations in which arrivals occur according to a discrete- time renewal process that has potential application in high-speed computer network, digital communication systems and other related areas is investigated.
Abstract: This paper investigates a discrete-time single-server finite-buffer queueing system with multiple vacations in which arrivals occur according to a discrete-time renewal process. Service and vacation times are mutually independent and geometrically distributed. We obtain steady-state system length distributions at prearrival, arbitrary and outside observer's observation epochs under the late arrival system with delayed access and early arrival system. The analysis of actual waiting-time for both the systems has also been carried out. The model has potential application in high-speed computer network, digital communication systems and other related areas.

TL;DR: In this article, renewal theory is used to model a large class of natural resource regulatory problems involving systemic and policy uncertainty, and the policy implications of their approach are discussed and discussed.

TL;DR: It is shown that the Organ-Pipe Arrangement is optimal under different storage configurations for both the anticipatory as well as the non-anticipatory versions of the problem.
Abstract: Optimal arrangements of cartridges and file partitioning schemes are examined in carousel type massstorage systems using Markov decision theory. It is shown that the Organ-Pipe Arrangement is optimalunder different storage configurations for both the anticipatory as well as the non-anticipatory versions ofthe problem. When requests arrive as per an arbitrary renewal process this arrangement is also shown tominimize the mean queueing delay and the time spent in the system by the requests.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the only renewal process that has the order statistic property is the Poisson process, and that it is a renewal process with order statistic properties.
Abstract: Using the characterization of point processes having the order statistic property we prove that the only renewal process that has the order statistic property is the Poisson process.
