TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of transients can be addressed satisfactorily and a further decoding delay can be reduced for this if use is made of a new SBR frame class in which the frame limits (902a, 902b) are not shifted, that is to say the grid limits are still synchronized with the SBR frames, but in which a statement of the transient position (T) is also used as a syntax element in order to be used, within the frames of this new frame class, to determine the grid limit within these frames at the c

TL;DR: In this article, a method for handling a plurality of digital video streams, each of the video streams being encoded in sequences of frames, is presented, where each sequence of frames comprising a key frame, at least one reference frame, and further frames, such that each frame is suitable for deriving frame information for further frames.
Abstract: A method (200, 300) for handling a plurality of digital video streams, each of the digital video streams being encoded in sequences of frames. Each of the sequences of frames comprising a key frame, at least one reference frame and further frames, said key frame and at least one reference frame suitable for deriving frame information for said further frames. The method comprises displaying (204) at least a first digital video stream to be displayed and buffering (206) at least one of said key frame or said at least one reference frame for a moving window of at least a second digital video stream allowing extraction of moving images from the buffered key frame or reference frame(s) when the second digital video stream is selected to be displayed. The invention also relates to a controller for controlling buffering of video information of a digital video stream not-displayed at that moment.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method for compressing image-based rendering (IBR) data, storing and transporting the compressed IBR data, and subsequently providing selective just-in-time (JIT) rendering of an image using only a portion of the compressed image data.
Abstract: Methods and arrangements are provided for compressing image-based rendering (IBR) data, storing and transporting the compressed IBR data, and subsequently providing selective just-in-time (JIT) rendering of an image using only a portion of the compressed IBR data. An array of images is formatted according to a multiple reference frame (MRF) structure that includes anchor frames and predicted frames. Each predicted frame references at least one anchor frame. Each anchor frame is independently encoded. Each predicted frame is encoded using motion compensation and a predicted residue associated with the referenced anchor frames. A resulting MRF bitstream includes encoded anchor frame data, encoded predicted frame data and indexing information that allows for selective random access to individual macroblocks within the encoded anchor frame data and the encoded predicted frame data. Thus, a new view of an image may be rendered by simply accessing only that macroblock information that needed to render the new view. Once decoded, macroblock information can be selectively stored in a cache and accessed again and again, to speed up the rendering of subsequent views.

TL;DR: In this article, a time frame switching method and a system of data units that utilize a time-frame labels and a common time reference (CTR) is presented, which is designed to operate with high-speed WDM links.
Abstract: A time frame switching method and system of data units that utilize a time frame labels and a common time reference (CTR), which is divided into a plurality of contiguous periodic time frames. The system is designed to operate with high-speed wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) links. The plurality of data units that are contained in each of the time frames are forwarded in a pipelined manner through the network switches, and can be switched from any incoming WDM channel to any subset of outgoing WDM channels responsive to the time frame labels and the common time reference. The combination of time frame labels and CTR can be further used for protection when a failure occurs.

TL;DR: In this paper, a moving image coder has an arithmetic unit (22) for calculating an average value of a coding object block; a comparator (25) for comparing the intra frame activity amount with a predicting error amount calculated when the motion prediction was made.
Abstract: A moving image coder has an arithmetic unit (22) for calculating an average value of a coding object block; an arithmetic unit (23) for obtaining an alternating current component by subtracting the average value from each of pixel values of the coding object block; an arithmetic unit (24) for obtaining a intra frame activity amount by making a calculation of the same kind as an error calculation in a motion prediction with respect to the obtained alternating current component; and a comparator (25) for comparing the intra frame activity amount with a predicting error amount calculated when the motion prediction is made. The inter frame coding mode or the intra frame coding mode is judged by large and small relations of the predicting error amount and the intra frame activity amount. In this moving image coder, codings of a intra frame block and a inter frame differential block are adaptively switched.
