TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe methods and apparatuses to encode multimedia data enabling, among others, improved decoded video quality, improved error recovery capabilities and/or improved decoding efficiency.
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to encode multimedia data enabling, among others, for example, improved decoded video quality, improved error recovery capabilities and/or improved decoding efficiency are described. A method according to the application includes one or more of the following: initializing a pixel-level reference counter for a current frame, performing a prediction of a next frame referring to the current frame, incrementing the pixel-level reference counter for each pixel of the current frame that is referenced during the prediction of the next frame, readjusting a macroblock bandwidth map of the current frame, repeating the steps of initializing, performing and readjusting for each next frame in a plurality of next frames referring to the current frame, and encoding the current frame based at least in part on the readjusted macroblock bandwidth map of the current frame.

TL;DR: In this article, the OFDM symbol frame start detection method according to the present invention places a free-length code pattern, which is separately generated in a time domain, in the starting point of a symbol frame and detects this pattern such that accuracy and efficiency greatly improve.
Abstract: Provided is a frame synchronization pattern design and synchronization method by which in a transmitter of a communications system employing an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), a frame synchronization pattern is inserted into the starting part of a symbol frame, and by detecting the frame synchronization pattern in a receiver, synchronization of the OFDM transmitter and receiver is performed. Also, provided are a transmitter synchronization apparatus including an OFDM symbol frame generation unit, a frame synchronization pattern insertion unit, and an OFDM transmission signal conversion unit, and a receiver synchronization apparatus comprising a frame synchronization pattern inserted OFDM symbol frame conversion unit, a frame synchronization pattern detection unit, and a source data generation unit. Overcoming the conventional notion depending on the earlier art OFDM symbol standards, the OFDM symbol frame start detection method according to the present invention places a free-length code pattern, which is separately generated in a time domain, in the starting point of a frame and detects this pattern such that accuracy and efficiency greatly improve. Also, since the power value of a received signal is detected in the method, the communications system operates regardless of the frequency offset and phase offset. In addition, since a free-length pattern can be designed, the start point of a frame can be accurately detected in a seriously fading channel, by detecting a maximum peak based on correlation.

TL;DR: In this paper, the current level of a virtual transmission buffer is compared to a threshold to determine whether to compress the current frame, and if the threshold exceeds the full level, the video compression processing is changed to a decline mode in which the threshold is gradually decremented towards the clear level.
Abstract: A current level of a virtual transmission buffer is maintained and used to select video frames for compression. The current level is compared to a threshold to determine whether to compress the current frame. The threshold is dynamically maintained between an upper "full" level and a lower "clear" level. If the current level exceeds the full level, the video compression processing is changed to a decline mode in which the threshold is gradually decremented towards the clear level. In addition, if the current level exceeds a "watch" level for too long, then the video compression processing is also switched to the decline mode. The present invention allows the virtual buffer to absorb variability in compressed frame size from frame to frame without resulting in undesired latency.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system of video decoding incorporating frame compression to reduce frame buffer size are disclosed, which adjusts parameters of the frame compression according to decoder system information or syntax element in the video bitstream.
Abstract: Method and system of video decoding incorporating frame compression to reduce frame buffer size are disclosed. The method adjusts parameters of the frame compression according to decoder system information or syntax element in the video bitstream. The decoder system information may be selected from a group consisting of system status, system parameter and a combination of system status and system parameter. The decoder system information may include system bandwidth, frame buffer size, frame buffer status, system power consumption, and system processing load. The syntax element comprises reference frame indicator, initial picture QP (quantization parameter), picture type, and picture size. The adaptive frame compression may be applied to adjust compression ratio. Furthermore, the adaptive frame compression may be applied to a decoder for a scalable video coding system or a multi-layer video coding system.
