TL;DR: In this paper, the number of data frames transmitted between two apparatuses is counted by a transmission counter, while the received frames are counted by reception counter, and the frame loss is calculated from the difference between the value of the transmission counter carried in the OAM frame from the previous value and the difference of the reception counter at the time of reception of the previous previous OAM Frame from a previous value.
Abstract: The number of data frames transmitted between two apparatuses is counted by a transmission counter, while the number of received frames is counted by a reception counter. When an OAM frame for frame loss measurement is transmitted, the value of the transmission counter is cached in a cache memory. At the time of generation of an OAM frame at an OAM frame generation unit, the value of the cache memory is used so as to generate an OAM frame carrying the value of the transmission counter at the time of transmission of the OAM frame transmitted previously. The frame loss is calculated from the difference of the value of the transmission counter carried in the OAM frame from the previous value and the difference of the value of the reception counter at the time of reception of the previous previous OAM frame from the previous value.

TL;DR: In this paper, motion estimation methods using multiple reference frames are provided, where motion estimation is performed on a current block using a single reference frame selected from the many reference frames or using the multiple frames in order of probability that each reference frame is an optimal reference frame for the current block.
Abstract: Motion estimation methods using multiple reference frames are provided. In the methods, motion estimation is performed on a current block using a single reference frame selected from the multiple reference frames or using the multiple reference frames in order of probability that each reference frame is an optimal reference frame for the current block. Accordingly, faster motion estimation is performed.

TL;DR: A video encoding/decoding method and apparatus in a temporal direct mode in a hierarchical structure was proposed in this paper. But the video encoding method in the hierarchical structure includes calculating a temporal position of a forward reference frame or a backward reference frame of a high-pass frame; searching for frames that exist at the temporal position and have motion vector information; if there is a plurality of frames searched for, selecting as a co-located frame a frame, having a motion vector of which an interval is closest to a difference in interval between the forward reference frames and the backward reference
Abstract: A video encoding/decoding method and apparatus in a temporal direct mode in a hierarchical structure. TL;DR: In this article, an energy-based pattern recognition algorithm was proposed for audio signal and a test frame sequence and returned a best matching in the audio signal to the given test frame sequences.
Abstract: An energy-based pattern recognition algorithm receives the input frames of an audio signal and a test frame sequence and returns a best match in the audio signal to the given test frame sequence. The energy of each input frame is computed, and input frames for which the energy is within a predetermined degree of closeness to the local maximum energy within the test frame sequence are identified as probable matches. Probable matches are then eliminated if the respective probable match does not correspond to a local maximum within a respective neighborhood of adjacent frames. The difference between overall energy for frames neighboring the remaining probable matches and the test frame sequence is computed as a percentage, with the minimum percent deviation in energy from the test frame sequence being returned as the best pattern match. Local signal characteristic matching may be employed to refine matching.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for filtering data to be compressed by frame differencing is presented, which operates as a pre-process or in conjunction with a technique by determining which of the changed data points can be disregarded without significantly affecting, for example, the stored image, thereby reducing the amount of data which must be stored or transmitted.
Abstract: A method for filtering data to be compressed by frame differencing is disclosed. In applications where large amounts of data must be either stored or transmitted, such as, for example, digital image data, various techniques are used to compress the data. One such technique is frame differencing wherein after a reference frame or key is encoded, only the differences between each frame and the immediately preceding frame in the sequence are encoded. The present invention operates as a pre-process or in conjunction with such a technique by determining which of the changed data points can be disregarded without significantly affecting, for example, the stored image, thereby reducing the amount of data which must be stored or transmitted. The determination is made in the present invention by comparing the pattern of changed data points in the vicinity of the data point under consideration with a set of pre-determined patterns.
