TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a method and apparatus of reduced encoding size in an encoder by encoding in terms of an interpolated frame, and decoders configured to decode video signals encoded with reference to a reference frame.
Abstract: Aspects include systems and methods of improving processing in an encoder in a multimedia transmission system. Other aspects include method and systems of processing in a decoder in a multimedia transmission system. For example, one aspect comprises a method and apparatus of reduced encoding size in an encoder by encoding in terms of an interpolated frame. Other aspects include decoders configured to decode video signals encoded with reference to an interpolated frame.

TL;DR: In this article, an initial frame synchronization method for finding out the initial synchronization offset at a receiver using the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signals by which any data is given and received in a frame unit, and by the estimation method of the phase difference variation and the maximum likelihood in the frequency domain.
Abstract: An initial frame synchronization method for finding out the initial frame synchronization offset at a receiver using the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signals by which any data is given and received in a frame unit, and by the estimation method of the phase difference variation and the maximum likelihood in the frequency domain. According to the invention, the initial frame synchronization is realized simply and rapidly by sending for initialization from the transmitter two frames consisting of the bit streams known already in the bit stream preamble, taking at the receiver only one among two frames to find out the synchronization offset value by any phase change, introducing a parameter corresponding to the variation of the phase difference without using merely the phase difference between the reference signal coordinates and the received signal coordinates, making a new parameter by adding the number of the subchannels used in a frame to such parameter, obtaining a conditional probability density function for the parameter by applying the probability theory and the approximation formula, and finally obtaining the initial synchronization offset value by the maximum likelihood estimation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a fast multi-frame selection method is proposed for H.264 video coding that can efficiently determine the best reference frame from the allowed five reference frames.
Abstract: The three main reasons why the new H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) video coding standard has a significant performance better than the other standards are the adoption of variable block sizes, multiple reference frames, and the consideration of rate distortion optimization within the codec. However, these features incur a considerable increase in encoder complexity. As for the multiple reference frames motion estimation, the increased computation is in proportion to the number of searched reference frames. In this paper, a fast multi-frame selection method is proposed for H.264 video coding. The proposed scheme can efficiently determine the best reference frame from the allowed five reference frames. Simulation results show that the speed of the proposed method is over two times faster than that of the original scheme adopted in JVT reference software JM73 while keeping the similar video quality and bit-rate.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for adaptive frame averaging is proposed, which divides a current frame image into a plurality of sub-blocks, and then determines a frame averaging coefficient for each sub-block based on the characteristic of the current frame and a characteristic image of a previous frame image.
Abstract: A method for adaptive frame averaging includes dividing a current frame image into a plurality of sub-blocks; obtaining a characteristic for each of the plurality of sub-blocks to obtain a characteristic image of the current frame image; determining a frame averaging coefficient for each of the plurality of sub-blocks based on the characteristic image of the current frame image and a characteristic image of a previous frame image; and frame-averaging a resultant frame-averaged image of the previous frame image and the current frame image by using the frame averaging coefficient of each of the plurality of sub-blocks to obtain a resultant frame-averaged image of the current frame image.

TL;DR: In this article, frame synchronization is established by inserting data for frame synchronization as a part of a synchronization word of a transmission frame on the sending side and detecting the data for the frame synchronization from reproduction data of a reception frame on a receiving side.
Abstract: In a spread spectrum communication apparatus, frame synchronization is established by inserting data for frame synchronization as a part of a synchronization word of a transmission frame on a sending side and detecting the data for frame synchronization from reproduction data of a reception frame on a receiving side. A frame synchronization pseudo-noise train generator section generates a pseudo-noise train for frame synchronization used as the frame synchronization data. A frame synchronization correlator section receives the pseudo noise train for frame synchronization and reproduction data to output a signal when the value of correlation of the pseudo noise train for frame synchronization and the reproduction data is not smaller than a reference value. A reception frame timing generator section outputs a reception synchronization word timing signal with the output signal of the frame synchronization correlator section being taken as a reference.
