TL;DR: In this paper, a computer implemented method provides a representative frame (Rframe) for a group of frames in a video sequence, which comprises selecting a reference frame from the group of frame and storing the reference frame in a computer memory.
Abstract: A computer implemented method provides a representative frame (Rframe) for a group of frames in a video sequence. The method comprises selecting a reference frame from the group of frames and storing the reference frame in a computer memory. The method defines a peripheral motion tracking region along an edge of the reference frame and successively tracks movement of boundary pixels in the tracking region, symbolizing any of the length of the shot and the presence of any caption.

TL;DR: In this paper, a video encoder uses previously calculated motion information for inter-frame coding to achieve faster computation speed for video compression, by dividing motion estimation of each inter frame to separate CPU cores.
Abstract: A video encoder uses previously calculated motion information for inter frame coding to achieve faster computation speed for video compression. In a multi bit rate application, motion information produced by motion estimation for inter frame coding of a compressed video bit stream at one bit rate is passed on to a subsequent encoding of the video at a lower bit rate. The video encoder chooses to use the previously calculated motion information for inter frame coding at the lower bit rate if the video resolution is unchanged. A multi core motion information pre-calculation produces motion information prior to encoding by dividing motion estimation of each inter frame to separate CPU cores.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for displaying selected images on a video display device is provided, which is adapted to store a plurality of memory frames each of which may store one or more image frames to be displayed.
Abstract: A system for displaying selected images on a video display device is provided. One or more sources of image frames are included which sources may be digital or analog and which sources may present pixel data in different selected formats. A frame memory is provided which is adapted to store a plurality of memory frames each of which may store one or more image frames to be displayed. Image frames are selectively stored in the memory frames of the frame memory in the format in which they are received. The images may be stored in full size or may be compressed for windowing display and selected information concerning image frames may be utilized to control the mapping of values stored for the pixels of the image frames. A display frame may be formed of two or more compressed image frames with each image frame being read out from a selected memory frame which memory frame may be independent of or the same as the memory frame for other read out images. Certain images may contain two or more different types of information which may be selectively processed when read out from a frame memory to cause the content of such multiple information images to be displayed as multiple separate images containing the content of the image frame in various permutations and combinations. Color mapping using the same or different criteria may also be provided, with the color mapping being independent for each of the image frames being simultaneously displayed.

TL;DR: In this paper, a high layer protocol is proposed to organize Unidirectional Streaming Services (USS) data into frames and said data is transmitted to the wireless user's terminal, after the receiver verifies the received frames.
Abstract: A high layer protocol organizes Unidirectional Streaming Services (USS) data into frames and said data is transmitted to the wireless user's terminal. The USS data is not delivered until a criteria is satisfied, e.g., the receive buffer is filled to an appropriate value. After the USS data is received, the receiver verifies the received frames. If an error is detected a message is sent from the wireless terminal to the server (providing the unidirectional streaming service) requesting retransmission of the corrupted frame. This is a form of ARQ protocol. If the retransmitted frame arrives prior to the time that frame needs to be delivered, the corrupted frame is replaced by the retransmitted frame. Otherwise, if the retransmitted frame is not received prior to the time that frame needs to be delivered, the corrupted frame is reconstructed. Any retransmitted frame which arrives too late is discarded. An additional benefit of the present invention is that since the frames are buffered prior to delivery, interpolation, as opposed to extrapolation, can be used to improve the reconstruction quality of the corrupted frame. This optional feature of the invention uses both the preceding and succeeding frames, which are available in the buffer, to provide a better estimate of the corrupted frame.
