TL;DR: Block and frame skipping as mentioned in this paper detects in advance which of the blocks in a video frame will produce little or no bits, so that the encoder can skip the encoding process for these blocks.
Abstract: Block and frame skipping decides which image regions, blocks or frames in a video frame or series of frames should be encoded. Block skipping detects in advance which of the blocks in a video frame will produce little or no bits, so that the encoder can skip the encoding process for these blocks. Block skipping uses an iterative procedure to determine the optimal energy threshold value for each image frame. All the image blocks whose pixel energy is below the optimal threshold for the frame are skipped. Frame skipping predicts a distortion or image quality value for each frame. If some frames have a predicted image quality smaller than a preset value, these frames are allocated more bits and if, as a result, too few bits are left for future frames, the latter frames are skipped. This selective frame skipping guarantees that the quality of the non-skipped frames is above the preset value.

TL;DR: In this article, the first and second motion vectors are determined for the two fields comprising a frame based on a field search, and then a frame search is performed to determine whether a frame prediction search is necessary.
Abstract: In image encoding methods or systems, first and second motion vectors are determined for the two fields comprising a frame based on a field search. The first and second motion vectors then may be used to determine whether a frame prediction search is necessary. If the difference between motion vectors for the two fields of the frame is less than a threshold, the frame search should be performed. A suitable threshold may be calculated or described in any number of ways, however, in one embodiment of the present invention, the threshold is dynamic that changes in response to the changing information in either preceding or succeeding fields.

TL;DR: In this article, an encoder-assisted frame loss concealment (FLC) technique for decoding audio signals is described, in which a decoder may discard an erroneous frame of an audio signal and may implement the encoder assisted FLC techniques in order to accurately conceal the discarded frame based on neighboring frames and side-information transmitted from the decoder.
Abstract: Encoder-assisted frame loss concealment (FLC) techniques for decoding audio signals are described. A decoder may discard an erroneous frame of an audio signal and may implement the encoder-assisted FLC techniques in order to accurately conceal the discarded frame based on neighboring frames and side-information transmitted from the encoder. The encoder-assisted FLC techniques include estimating magnitudes of frequency-domain data for the frame based on frequency-domain data of neighboring frames, and estimating signs of the frequency-domain data based on a subset of signs transmitted from the encoder as side-information. Frequency-domain data for a frame of an audio signal includes tonal components and noise components. Signs estimated from a random signal may be substantially accurate for the noise components of the frequency-domain data. However, to achieve highly accurate sign estimation for the tonal components, the encoder transmits signs for the tonal components of the frequency-domain data as side-information.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and device are provided for method for stabilization of image data by an imaging device, which includes detecting image data for a first frame and a second frame, performing motion estimation to determine one or more motion vectors associated with global frame motion for image data of the first frame, and determining a global transformation based on motion vectors selected by the outlier rejection function.
Abstract: A method and device are provided for method for stabilization of image data by an imaging device. In one embodiment, a method includes detecting image data for a first frame and a second frame, performing motion estimation to determine one or more motion vectors associated with global frame motion for image data of the first frame, performing an outlier rejection function to select at least one of the one or more motion vectors, and determining a global transformation for image data of the first frame based, at least in part, on motion vectors selected by the outlier rejection function. The method may further include determining a stabilization transformation for image data of the first frame by refining the global transformation to correct for unintentional motion and applying the stabilization transformation to image data of the first frame to stabilize the image data of the first frame.

TL;DR: In this article, a technique for reducing audible artifacts in an audio output signal generated by decoding a received frame in a series of frames is described, if the received frame is one of a predefined number of received frames following a lost frame.
Abstract: A technique is described for reducing audible artifacts in an audio output signal generated by decoding a received frame in a series of frames. According to the technique, if the received frame is one of a predefined number of received frames following a lost frame, at least one parameter or signal associated with the decoding of the received frame is altered from a state associated with normal decoding. The received frame is then decoded in accordance with the at least one parameter or signal.
