TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyse the role of human resource management in the development of organizational capabilities and its influence on the firm's performance from a resource-based view, concluding that human resource decisions, integrated in a human resource system, have an important influence on organizational capabilities.
Abstract: The aim of this research work was to analyse the role of human resource management in the development of organizational capabilities and its influence on the firm's performance from a resource-based view. Our results, from empirical research on a nation-wide sample of Spanish savings banks, suggest that human resource decisions, integrated in a human resource system, have an important influence on the development of organizational capabilities and on the firm's performance.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide a theoretical and empirical investigation of the correlation between resource wealth and authoritarianism, and find a robust and statistically signi cant association between resource dependence measured by the ratio of fuel and mineral exports as a percentage of total exports.
Abstract: This article provides a theoretical and empirical investigation of the correlation between resource wealth and authoritarianism. Building on the rentier state literature, I argue that resource wealth facilitates the consolidation of an already established authoritarian government. Resource wealth also generates a breakdown of democratic regimes due to a combination of incumbency advantage, political instability, and political repression. There is strong empirical support for the theoretical argument. Controlling for GDP, human capital, income inequality and other possible determinants, I ?nd a robust and statistically signi?cant association between resource dependence measured by the ratio of fuel and mineral exports as a percentage of total exports and authoritarianism.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of resource dependence and coercive isomorphism on accounting and financial reporting compliance is investigated in a large number of large Belgian nonprofit organizations, where the authors present a unique setting in which a large many of (very) large Belgian nonprofits are confronted with far-reaching changes in financial reporting regulations.
Abstract: Nonprofit organizations worldwide are confronted with an increasing demand for accountability and improved financial transparency. Financial reporting by nonprofit organizations is no longer an exception; it has become a rule. The usefulness of a financial report to an organization’s stakeholders depends on its quality. The latter is safeguarded by reporting standards as well as the commitment of the organization to fully implement these standards. Although resource dependence and coercive isomorphism have been used in earlier nonprofit organization research, no empirical research has linked these theories to compliance with financial reporting standards. Using a unique setting in which a large number of (very) large Belgian nonprofit organizations are confronted with far-reaching changes in financial reporting regulations, the effect of resource dependence and coercive isomorphism on accounting and financial reporting compliance is documented.

TL;DR: Results from 959 firms indicate that respondents operating under ‘more marketized’ institutional settings tend to locate themselves in more munificent environments and place greater emphasis on meeting customer needs.
Abstract: Insights from the resource dependence approach, dynamic fit, and strategic choice theories are used to explore the strategies adopted by Chinese enterprises, their settings, and the relationship between strategy, environment, and performance. Results from 959 firms indicate that respondents operating under ‘more marketized’ institutional settings tend to locate themselves in more munificent environments and place greater emphasis on meeting customer needs. Firms in China do not trade off one strategic direction against another, and certain strategy/environment coalignments have significant implications for performance. In particular, performance is better in more marketized and munificent environments and amongst firms who adopt an ‘aggressive’ strategic posture. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
