TL;DR: Throughout the analysis of the Polymath Virtual Library, data aggregation and dissemination of authority records through Linked Open Data are described to enhance relationships and navigability of the site.
Abstract: Throughout the analysis of the Polymath Virtual Library, data aggregation and dissemination of authority records through Linked Open Data are described. The aim of this virtual library is to reunite data, digital texts, and Web resources about Spanish, Hispano-American, Brazilian, and Portuguese polymaths from all times. Authors are the backbone of the system. For each author a MARC 21/Resource Description and Access (RDA) authority record has been created and enriched with biographical data. Specific attributes are categorized to enhance relationships and navigability of the site (profession, occupation, gender, memberships, birth and death dates and places, and languages) and visibility through Europeana and Linked Open Data.

TL;DR: The concept of "quality" in library cataloging is explored and the perception of quality cataloging among catalogers who work in academic libraries is examined in order to develop a framework for evaluatingquality cataloging definitions.
Abstract: This study explores the concept of "quality" in library cataloging and examines the perception of quality cataloging among catalogers who work in academic libraries. An examination of the concept of "quality cataloging" in library science literature revealed that even though there is some general agreement on how this concept is defined, the level of detail and focus of these definitions often vary. These various perceptions were dissected in order to develop a framework for evaluating quality cataloging definitions; this framework was used to evaluate study participants' definitions of quality cataloging. Studying cataloger perceptions of quality cataloging is important because it is catalogers (particularly original catalogers) who are largely responsible for what is included in bibliographic records. Survey participants (n = 296) provided their personal definition of quality cataloging as well as their opinions on their department's cataloging, their influence upon their department's policies and procedures, and the specific data that should be included in a quality bibliographic record. Interview participants (n = 20) provided insight on how their opinions of quality cataloging were formed and the influences that shaped these opinions.

TL;DR: The benefits of a Resource Description and Access (RDA) enrichment project for libraries benefit the patron experience because the data is cleaner and more consistent for patron use and display, cataloging staff workflows are simplified, and the consistency of theData is advantageous for system development and data exchange with other communities.
Abstract: This article examines the benefits of a Resource Description and Access (RDA) enrichment project for libraries. Enrichment projects “hybridize,” or enrich legacy Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition (AACR2) bibliographic records with RDA data. Until a replacement for MARC is developed, bibliographic data will continue to be encoded in MARC 21 in many integrated library systems. Library catalogs contain records coded under both AACR2 and RDA standards. RDA enrichment projects benefit the patron experience because the data is cleaner and more consistent for patron use and display, cataloging staff workflows are simplified, and the consistency of the data is advantageous for system development and data exchange with other communities.
