TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the development and performance of a wideband dual linear polarization microstrip antenna array used in the Danish high-resolution airborne multifrequency polarimetric synthetic aperture radar, EMISAR.
Abstract: This paper describes the development and performance of a wideband dual linear polarization microstrip antenna array used in the Danish high-resolution airborne multifrequency polarimetric synthetic aperture radar, EMISAR. The antenna was designed for an operating frequency of 1.25 GHz/spl plusmn/50 MHz and was built as an array of 8/spl times/2 probe-fed stacked microstrip patches. The feeding network is constructed in microstrip and is capable of handling 6 kW of peak input-power at an altitude of 45000 ft (unpressurized). The impedance bandwidth (return loss better than -14 dB) of the antenna is 10%, the isolation between the horizontal and the vertical ports of the array is 50 dB and the cross-polarization suppression is 40 dB. A new design principle for simultaneously achieving very low cross-polarization and low side lobes in dual linear polarization antenna arrays has been applied.

TL;DR: In this paper, a microstrip Wilkinson power divider with harmonic suppression and size reduction is presented, which not only effectively reduces the occupied area to 36.5% of the conventional design at 2.65 GHz but also has higher order harmonics suppression.
Abstract: A microstrip Wilkinson power divider with harmonic suppression and size reduction is presented in this letter. The proposed power divider not only effectively reduces its occupied area to 36.5% of the conventional design at 2.65 GHz but also has higher order harmonics suppression. From the measured results, a 29 dB suppression for the third harmonic and a 34 dB suppression for the fifth harmonic are achieved while maintaining the characteristics of a conventional Wilkinson power divider. Based on a 15 dB return-loss criteria, the measured fractional bandwidth is 48%. At an operation frequency of 2.65 GHz, the insertion losses are better than 3.4 dB, the return loss is 27 dB, and the isolation is better than 22 dB.

TL;DR: A microwave antenna system for transcatheter ablation of cardiac tissue is investigated and numerical calculations are confirmed by comparing with the RL measurement of a Teflon-coated monopole containing a disk and choke.
Abstract: A microwave antenna system for transcatheter ablation of cardiac tissue is investigated. A numerical model based on the finite-difference time-domain method incorporating a Gaussian pulse excitation has been constructed and frequency domain electric and magnetic fields are obtained through Fourier transformation. Results are presented for a coaxial line fed monopole catheter which is modified by the successive inclusion of a Teflon sheath outer coating, a terminating disk at the tip of the antenna, a sleeve choke, and a high dielectric constant cylinder surrounding the monopole antenna. The effects of these design features are characterized in terms of specific absorption rate (SAR) and return loss (RL). Numerical calculations are confirmed by comparing with the RL measurement of a Teflon-coated monopole containing a disk and choke.

TL;DR: The derivation of the antenna pattern basis functions regarding a three-element SPA of arbitrary radiating elements within a symmetric array topology is generalized for multiplexing signals in the wavevector domain (using different beampatterns) rather than in the hardware antenna domain with multiple feeding ports.
Abstract: An approach for transmitting multiple signals using a single switched parasitic antenna (SPA) has been recently reported. The idea there is to map the signals to be transmitted onto a set of basis functions that serve as “virtual antennas” in the beamspace (i.e., wavevector) domain. In this paper, we generalize the derivation of the antenna pattern basis functions regarding a three-element SPA of arbitrary radiating elements, within a symmetric array topology, for multiplexing signals in the wavevector domain (using different beampatterns) rather than in the hardware antenna domain with multiple feeding ports. A fully operational antenna system example is modeled, optimized regarding its return loss and the power imbalance between the basis functions, and finally realized. The measurements of the SPA show good agreement with the simulated target values, revealing an accurate design approach to be adopted as a fast SPA prototyping methodology. The SPA has been successfully employed for multiplexing two binary phase-shift-keying (BPSK) datastreams over-the-air, thus paving the way for practically compact and highly efficient MIMO transceiver designs.

TL;DR: A hybrid theoretical/experimental approach to the design of radial line slot array (RLSA) antennas for receiving direct broadcast satellite (DBS) TV programs in Australia is presented in this paper.
Abstract: A hybrid theoretical/experimental approach to the design of radial line slot array (RLSA) antennas for receiving direct broadcast satellite (DBS) TV programs in Australia is presented. Using this approach, 0.4-m and 0.6-m diameter linearly polarized Ku-band prototype antennas were constructed and experimentally investigated. The 0.6-m prototype incorporates reflection cancelling slots, which allow it to overcome the inherent poor return loss performance in linearly polarized RLSA antennas. Measurements show high-radiation efficiency for this form of radial slot antenna and its suitability for the DBS TV application.
