TL;DR: The authors evaluated the psychometric properties of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) in a mostly African American clinical sample and determined if these qualities provided useful information about their motivational characteristics that were germane to treatment.
Abstract: This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) in a mostly African American clinical sample and determined if these qualities provided useful information about their motivational characteristics that were germane to treatment. Eighty-two men and 50 women entered a 6-week outpatient drug rehabilitation program, completed the NEO-PI-R, and received counselor ratings of personality at admission. The 99 who finished the program completed a 2nd NEO-PI-R. Counselors provided ratings of treatment responsiveness. The cross-observer, cross-method, cross-time correlations indicated that the NEO-PI-R can be a useful tool for organizing clinical information about clients.

TL;DR: The results show that subjects with a personality trait of less openness have an accelerated loss of gray matter volume in the right inferior parietal lobule, compared with subjectsWith a personality traits of more openness, which is thought to be important for preservinggray matter volume and cognitive function of the right superior parietal lobe in healthy adults.
Abstract: To investigate whether personality traits affect the rate of decline of gray matter volume, we analyzed the relationships between personality traits and the annual rate of changes of gray matter volume in 274 healthy community dwelling subjects with a large age range by applying a longitudinal design over 6 years, using brain magnetic resonance images (MRI) and the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) at baseline. Brain MRI data were processed using voxel-based morphometry with a custom template by applying the DARTEL diffeomorphic registration tool. For each subject, we used NEO-PI-R to evaluate the five major personality traits, including neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. The results show that the annual rate of change in regional gray matter volume in the right inferior parietal lobule was correlated significantly and negatively with a personality of openness, which is known to be related to intellect, intellectual curiosity, and creativity adjusting for age, gender, and intracranial volume. This result indicates that subjects with a personality trait of less openness have an accelerated loss of gray matter volume in the right inferior parietal lobule, compared with subjects with a personality trait of more openness. Because the right inferior parietal lobule is involved in higher cognitive function such as working memory and creativity, a personality trait of openness is thought to be important for preserving gray matter volume and cognitive function of the right inferior parietal lobule in healthy adults.

TL;DR: The goal of the present investigation is to compare the factor structure of the revised NEO Personality Inventory in samples of respondents differentially motivated to respond in a socially desirable manner with that of a normative sample.
Abstract: The goal of the present investigation is to compare the factor structure of the revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R; P. T. Costa & R. R. McCrae, 1992) in samples of respondents differentially motivated to respond in a socially desirable manner. In the French sample, the authors compared the NEO PI-R structure of job applicants (N = 12,631) subgrouped by relative degree of socially desirable responding with that of a normative sample (N = 801), In the Belgian sample, the authors compared the NEO Pl-R structure in naturally occurring groups, including job applicants (N = 3,028), individuals receiving career counseling (N = 221), and a normative sample (N = 549). Results indicate that the NEO Pl-R factor structure remained stable across all samples.

TL;DR: The Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R) was administered to 64 males incarcerated for child sex offences as mentioned in this paper and the results indicated that the sex offender groups were significantly higher in Neuroticism and significantly lower in Extraversion and Conscientiousness compared to the non-offender group.
Abstract: Although previous research has reported that the incarceration of sex offenders does not significantly reduce re-offending, there is no adequate theory guiding remedial programs for this population. The aim of the present study was to examine whether normal personality variation provides useful theoretical insight into the nature of sex offences against children. The Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO PI-R), a measure of the five-factor model (FFM) of personality, was administered to 64 males incarcerated for child sex offences. Sex offenders were categorised into different offender groups comprising incest within the immediate family, incest within step-family and extra familial offence. A comparison group of 33 non-offender males also completed the NEO PI-R. Results indicated that the sex offender groups were significantly higher in Neuroticism and significantly lower in Extraversion and Conscientiousness compared to the non-offender group. Significant differences between the sex offender g...
