TL;DR: Byravan and Ramanaiah as discussed by the authors made a strong case for the use of oblique rotation in the factor analysis of the l6PF primary scales and criticized Byravan et al. (1995) for using orthogonal rotation in their factor analysis.
Abstract: Su~?~map -This article provides a reply to Cattell's 1995 comments on some mech~dolo~~c~l issues related to Byravan and Ramanaiah's 1995 study and shows that their study \VJS methodologically sound. It was concluded that the results of Byravan and Ramanaiah's study were different from those of Cattell's 1995 factor analyses mainly due to the fact chat the former involved the Factor analysis of l6PF primary scales from the perspective of the five-factor model using Revised NEO Personality Inventory domain scales and Goldberg's 1992 scales as markers for the five major factors whereas the latter investigated the structure of the Revised NEO Personality Inventory facet scales From the perspective of the l6PF global scales. Cattell (1995) made two major criticisms of Byravan and Ramanaiah's (1995) study of the structure of the l6PF Fifth Edition from the perspective of the five-factor model of personahty. These criticisms along with our replies are presented below: 1. Cattell (1995) made a strong case for the use of oblique rotation in the factor analysis of the l6PF primary scales and criticized Byravan and Ramanaiah (1995) for using orthogonal rotation in their factor analysis of the l6PF scales. Strangely enough, orthogonal rotation was used in two factor analyses of the 16PF scales reported by Cattell (1995) so we wonder why oblique rotation was not used in those analyses. In our factor analyses of the 16PF scales, however, we used both varirnax and oblunin rotations and found essentially the same results as we stated in our original article. In fact, the correlations among the oblunin factors ranged from -.19 to +.I2 with a medan of -.04, indicating the factors were essentially orthogonal. Comparison of rotated factor-loading matrices obtained from the varirnax and the oblirnin rotations led us to the same conclusion. 2. Another criticism was that the results of Byravan and Ramanaiah (1995) might have been dstorted due to the use of two sets of markers for the five-factor model and the use of factor scales instead of the original marker scales in factor analysis. We used two sets of markers for the fivefactor model, namely, Goldberg's (1992) marker scales based on the taxon

TL;DR: In this paper, the main objective of the study was to determine the personality structure of women who delivered prematurely, based on an exploratory, observational and transversal research design, a sample of 301 premature mothers was obtained in 2 health institutions on the outskirts of Lisbon.
Abstract: The main objective of the study was to determine the personality structure of women who delivered prematurely. Based on an exploratory, observational and transversal research design, a sample of 301 premature mothers was obtained in 2 health institutions on the outskirts of Lisbon. The research protocol was based on the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (Five-Factor Model) and a Sample Questionnaire. The personality profile is high in Extroversion (E; p=0,0001) and low in Neuroticism (N; p=0,0001). The participants can be characterized as not being hostile (N2; p=0,0001), vulnerable (N6; p=0,02) depressed (N3; p=0,0001) or self-conscious (N4; p=0,02). Instead they are assertive (E3; p=0,0001), active (E4; p=0,0001) and have more positive emotions (E6; p=0,0001). Although they do not appreciate aesthetics (O2; p=0,01) and actions (O4; p=0,02), they are prone to having more ideas (O5; p=0,0001) and values (O6; p=0,04). Altruistic (A3; p=0,04), self-disciplined (C5; p=0,002), less deliberate (C6; p=0,03) they are not very committed to duty (C3; p=0,0001). The high extroversion and activity levels may place full-term pregnancy at risk.

TL;DR: Any mother delivering at an inner city, University hospital on postpartum days 1-4 during 2 periods (June-August 1996 & June-August 1997) was eligible for enrollment into the study and a structured interview and a 264-question Revised NEO Personality Inventory were used to objectively determine attitudinal, cultural and personality traits.
Abstract: Any mother delivering at an inner city, University hospital on postpartum days 1-4 during 2 periods (June-August 1996 & June-August 1997) was eligible for enrollment into the study. Based on observed/self-reported behavior, women were classified either as (1) initiators of breastfeeding only or as (2) initiators of formula feeding only. Combination breast/formula feeders were excluded from the study (n = 16). A structured interview and a 264-question Revised NEO Personality Inventory were used to objectively determine attitudinal, cultural and personality traits. A Hollingshead score was calculated for each subject based on occupation and educational level. Following the interview, the subjects were asked to complete the personality inventory.

TL;DR: People who work as homeopaths can be described as open to new and different ideas, and as caring, understanding, and altruistic persons, so there is reason to believe that these dispositions are central in choosing homeopathy as an occupation.
Abstract: Objectives: The Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) was used to describe the personality profiles of homeopaths in Norway. It was hypothesized that the homeopaths would score higher than the norm sample on Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. Design: The NEO-PI-R describes personality scores on five traits; Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness. A cross-sectional survey of 128 (39%) members of the Norwegian association for homeopaths was compared with the Norwegian population norm sample. Results: Compared to the norm population score with a mean of 50, the homeopaths scored significantly higher on the personality traits Openness (54.7) and Agreeableness (58.0). Significant, but small differences were also observed with a higher score on Conscientiousness (52.3) and a lower score on Extraversion (48.3). There were no significant differences on Neuroticism (49.7). Conclusions: People who work as homeopaths can be described as open to new and ...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the relationship between personality traits, emotional intelligence and feeling happiness among students of Tabriz University and found a positively significant relationship between happiness and personality traits such as extroversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness.
Abstract: Background: Happiness is a concept, which due to its role in mental health, has been taken account by the researchers recently. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between personality traits, emotional intelligence and feeling happiness among students of Tabriz University. Methods: This study was a descriptive and analytical one. The statistical population of the research consisted of student of Tabriz University in fall 2010. A sample of 200(100 male and 100 female) students was selected using multistage random sampling to participate in the study. Research questionnaires such as Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO- PI-R), Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale, and Oxford Happiness Questionnaire were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis. Results: Finding showed that there is a positively significant relationship between happiness and personality traits such as extroversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that happiness had a negatively significant correlation with neuroticism (P<0/01). On the other hand, the results revealed a significant positive relationship between happiness and emotional intelligence (P<0/01). Finally, regression analysis showed that personality characteristics and emotional intelligence predicted happiness, significantly in students. Conclusion: Finding showed that promotion of personality traits and emotional intelligence could lead to increasing happiness in students.
