TL;DR: In this paper, the Sagnac effect in a mesoscopic semiconductor electron interferometer was analyzed and it was shown that spin-orbit interactions increase the rotation-induced phase shift.
Abstract: The Sagnac effect is an important phase coherent effect in optical and atom interferometers where rotations of the interferometer with respect to an inertial reference frame result in a shift in the interference pattern proportional to the rotation rate. Here, we analyze the Sagnac effect in a mesoscopic semiconductor electron interferometer. We include in our analysis the Rashba spin-orbit interactions in the ring. Our results indicate that spin-orbit interactions increase the rotation-induced phase shift. We discuss the potential experimental observability of the Sagnac phase shift in such mesoscopic systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, the modal equations of motion of an electrostatically actuated ring are derived and shown to be coupled via the electrostatic stiffness, which permits parametric instabilities that may be exploited in a novel excitation scheme.
Abstract: This paper investigates the application of parametric excitation to a resonant microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) gyroscope. The modal equations of motion of an electrostatically actuated ring are derived and shown to be coupled via the electrostatic stiffness. Such electrostatic coupling between in-plane modes of vibration permits parametric instabilities that may be exploited in a novel excitation scheme. A multiple time scale perturbation method is used to analyse the response of the ring gyroscope to the combination parametric excitations with the principal objective of separating the drive and response frequencies of the ring gyroscope. As pairs of flexural modes of the perfect ring are degenerate, the combination excitation between distinct modes demand the ring to be analysed as a four degree of freedom system. Slight mis-tuning between the otherwise degenerate modes is incorporated in the perturbation analysis. The results of the perturbation analysis are subsequently used to determine ...

TL;DR: In this paper, a ring laser gyroscope has more than one electrode attached to it and an electric field is created between the electrodes during the operation, which causes ions in the frame to migrate towards a lowest electrical potential.
Abstract: Current control biasing of a ring laser gyroscope is employed to protect electrode seals. A frame of a ring laser gyroscope has more than one electrode attached to it. An electric field is created between the electrodes during the operation of the gyroscope, which causes ions in the frame to migrate towards a lowest electrical potential. Electrode seals are located between the electrodes and the frame. By providing a positive power supply voltage and connecting the current control to the non-ground side of the power supply, the mounting structure may be at the lowest electrical potential. The ions will then migrate towards the mounting structure, which significantly reduces migration to the electrodes.

TL;DR: In this paper, a calibration model for the laser gyro strap down inertial navigation system was proposed based on the inertial navigational equation and the conditions under which the proposed model was deduced were discussed.
Abstract: According to the output error model of the gyros and accelerators, a systematic calibration model for the laser gyro strap down inertial navigation system was proposed based on the inertial navigation equation. The conditions under which the proposed model was deduced were discussed. The complete identification of the twenty-four error parameters was analyzed. This analysis explains the reason why the existed paper can’t identify all the twenty-four error parameters, and improves the integrity of the theory. Then the principles of the calibration experiment design were proposed. Further more, a calibration algorithm, which can identify twenty-four error parameters of the inertial navigation unit was studied. According to the principles, there exist many feasible experiment designs. This calibration method is simple and simple and feasible.

TL;DR: A ring laser gyroscope incorporates a resonant cavity generally shaped as an irregular pentagon having a portion thereof conformed as three legs of a rectangle closed by two symmetrical other legs to form an apex.
Abstract: A ring laser gyroscope incorporates a resonant cavity generally shaped as an irregular pentagon having a portion thereof conformed as three legs of a rectangle closed by two symmetrical other legs to form an apex. As result the enclosed area is increased, increasing sensitivity and decreasing lock-in, while magnetic effects are reduced. Additionally, the irregular shape allows for the extension of the gain medium which therefore increases the effectiveness thereof.
