TL;DR: In this article, a split gain multi-mode ring laser gyroscope is disclosed having a radio frequency excitation induction coil which also serves the magnetic mode suppression system, suppressing undesirable modes of the gain curve to achieve the split gain effect.
Abstract: A split gain multi-mode ring laser gyroscope is disclosed having a radio frequency excitation induction coil which also serves the magnetic mode suppression system, suppressing undesirable modes of the gain curve to achieve the split gain effect. The induction coil serves as an important common component of both the gain medium excitation and mode suppression systems. The induction coil is suitably configured to carry both AC and DC signals.

TL;DR: In this article, the noise due to the birefringence modulation of a nonideal phase modulator in a fiber-optic gyroscope is investigated and theoretical analysis and experimental observation show that there is a definite 2-phase difference between this noise and the Sagnac signal at the modulation frequency.
Abstract: The noise due to the birefringence modulation of a nonideal phase modulator in a fibre-optic gyroscope is investigated. Theoretical analysis and experimental observation show that there is a definite ?/2 phase difference between this noise and the Sagnac signal at the modulation frequency.

23 Oct 2006TL;DR: In this article, an air-core fiber-optic gyroscope with similar short-term noise as a conventional gyrogroscope (random walk of 0.015 deg/√hr) and a dramatically reduced sensitivity to Kerr effect (>50), temperature transients (~6.5), and Faraday effect (>10) was reported.

29 Mar 1977TL;DR: In this paper, a ring laser gyroscope with a triangular block configuration and an external output prism is configured to be symmetrical about its axis of symmetry to reduce the temperature gradient across the instrument, which causes output signals in the absence of an input angular rate.
Abstract: A ring laser gyroscope having a triangular block configuration and means to dither the block about its line of symmetry. The triangular block is configured to be symmetrical about its axis of symmetry to reduce the temperature gradient across the instrument, which effect causes output signals in the absence of an input angular rate. An optical wedge attached to the output reflector of the triangular block and an external output prism form an interferometer by means of which the sensitivity of the device is reduced and the interferometer signal made equal and opposite to that of the laser cavity.
