TL;DR: In this article, a piezo adjuster with passive thermal compensation elements was used as part of a ring laser gyroscope to counteract thermal variations of the optical path length of the cavity.
Abstract: This paper discusses the possibility of creating a piezo adjuster with passive thermal compensation elements to be used as part of a ring laser gyroscope to counteract thermal variations of the optical path length of the cavity. The dependence of the linear thermal expansion coefficient of glass–ceramic CO-115M is investigated. The paper presents the temperature dependences of the variation of the cavity perimeter when ideal and actual piezo adjusters are used. It is shown that passive thermal compensation can be achieved by varying the geometrical parameters of the piezoelectric actuator’s structural elements that have various values of the linear thermal expansion coefficient.

TL;DR: In this paper, a gyroscope and a method of detecting rotation are provided, which includes a structure configured to be driven to move about a drive axis, in response to a Coriolis force generated by rotation of the structure about a rotational axis while moving about the drive axis.
Abstract: A gyroscope and a method of detecting rotation are provided. The gyroscope includes a structure configured to be driven to move about a drive axis. The structure is further configured to move about a sense axis in response to a Coriolis force generated by rotation of the structure about a rotational axis while moving about the drive axis. The gyroscope further includes an optical sensor system configured to optically measure movement of the structure about the sense axis. In certain embodiments, the gyroscope is a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gyroscope.

TL;DR: In this article, the lock-in effect of a ring laser gyro by controlling the intensity of backscattered waves was reduced by adjusting three of the four ring gyro mirrors by means of piezo elements.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for reducing the errors due to lock-in effect of a ring laser gyro by controlling the intensity of backscattered waves. The intensity of the backscattered waves is controlled by adjusting three of the four ring laser gyro mirrors by means of piezo elements.

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of an open-loop interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope with an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) that closes the sensing coil into a reentrant configuration was reported.
Abstract: This paper reports the performance of an open-loop interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope with an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) that closes the sensing coil into a reentrant configuration. Preliminary results have shown a 6.56-fold increase in rotation response factor at a rate of 5/spl deg//s over a conventional gyroscope using the same fiber length and light source. The dynamic range is tunable by changing the gain of the EDFA.
