TL;DR: In this article , a coherent detection technique was proposed to suppress backscattering noise of a resonant fiber optic gyroscope (RFOG) by mixing the light from the fiber ring resonator with a reference beam rather than being demodulated directly in traditional configurations.
Abstract: This paper provides a novel, to the best of our knowledge, method for suppressing backscattering noise of a resonant fiber optic gyroscope (RFOG) with a coherent detection technique. The light from the fiber ring resonator is mixed with a reference beam rather than being demodulated directly in traditional configurations, generating a coherent signal with a radio frequency. The central frequencies of the two reference lights used for the clockwise and counterclockwise waves are different to avoid the effect of backscattered waves. Besides, a common phase modulation is applied on the two counter-propagating waves to eliminate the parasitic effect due to the residual amplitude modulation in the phase modulator. Two demodulation schemes for the rotation rate detection from the coherent signals are then proposed and demonstrated, with performance on noise suppression tested. One is the beat-frequency demodulation, and the other is the self-mixing demodulation technique. The influence of backscattering intensity is reduced from 270°/h to 3°/h and 0.05°/h with the two demodulation techniques, respectively, showing a full suppression of backscattering noise.

TL;DR: In this paper, a laser gyroscope based on parallel feedback was proposed, consisting of an Er-doped fiber amplifier, an F-P cavity filter, a multimode light transmission medium, a 90/10 coupler, a 50/50 coupler and a photoelectric detector.
Abstract: The invention provides a laser gyroscope based on parallel feedback, comprising an Er-doped fiber amplifier, an F-P cavity filter, a multimode light transmission medium, a 90/10 coupler, a 50/50 coupler and a photoelectric detector, wherein the Er-doped fiber amplifier is connected with the F-P cavity filter, the multimode light transmission medium and the 90/10 coupler in series via single mode light transmission media so as to form an annular cavity, the through end of the 90/10 coupler is connected to the annual cavity, two coupling ends of the 90/10 coupler serve as output ports of a bidirectional light path, two coupling output ends of the 90/10 coupler are connected with the two input ends of the 50/50 coupler, and the output ends of the 50/50 coupler are connected with the photosensitive detector. The multimode light transmission medium can be utilized to compress line width based on the ultra-narrow line width laser gyroscope without increasing the length of Er-doped fiber greatly, thus greatly enhancing the measurement precision of the laser gyroscope and reducing the cost. In addition, the Sagnac effect can be amplified by the laser gyroscope in the invention.

TL;DR: In this paper, an interface circuit is provided to allow substitution of digital output rotation sensors such as fiber optic gyroscopes or ring laser gyroscope in place of spinning mass gyroscope.
Abstract: An interface circuit is provided to allow substitution of digital output rotation sensors such as fiber optic gyroscopes or ring laser gyroscopes in place of spinning mass gyroscopes. The pulses generated from the fiber optic gyroscope, or from a ring laser gyroscope are converted to a voltage representative of volts per degrees per second and are summed with an inverted volts per degrees per second at an integrating summing amplifier to result in an error signal in volts per degrees per second when there is a difference between the actual output of the gyroscope and the command signal.
