TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented electro-mechanical characteristics of a micro-machined vibrating silicon ring gyroscope which can measure angular velocity components about three orthogonal axes.
Abstract: This paper presents electro-mechanical characteristics of a micro-machined vibrating silicon ring gyroscope which can measure angular velocity components about three orthogonal axes. The ring gyroscope has a ring connected to the gyroscope main body by support ligaments that are arranged with cyclic symmetry. The natural modes of its vibration can be distinguished into the in-plane motion and the out-of-motion that are coupled by the gyro-effect due to the rotation of the gyroscope main body. The motions of the ring are electro-statically driven, sensed and balanced by electrodes. The equations of motion are formulated with considering the electrostatic effects of electrodes. The measuring method of angular velocities of the gyroscope main body by force-torebalance is proposed. The dynamic characteristics of the ring gyroscope are discussed.

TL;DR: The 3D finite element modal of dithering system of laser gyroscope is constructed in this paper, and the modal analysis for its vibration characteristic is performed, which is very helpful for improving the design of the system.
Abstract: The 3D finite element modal of dithering system of laser gyroscope is constructed in this paper, and the modal analysis for its vibration characteristic is performed. The modal test for the system is made, and the two results obtained above are compared. The accordance of the two results reveals that the finite element modal constructed in this paper is rational, and the analysis result is reliable. It is very helpful for improving the design of the system.

08 Oct 2015TL;DR: In this paper, a portable three-axis magnetic field measurement system has been designed to measure the magnetic field in x, y and z direction simultaneously, which can be easily customized to achieve the automatic DAQ, analysis, plotting and storage functions.
Abstract: The magnetic field is one of the main causes of zero drift in a Ring Laser Gyroscope (RLG), which should be avoided by adopting a magnetic shielding system. The Gauss Meter is usually used to measure the magnetic shielding effectiveness. Generally, the traditional Gauss Meter has advantages of high measure range and high reliability, however, its drawbacks such as complex structure, high price and the PC client software cannot be customized at will, are also obvious. In this paper, aiming at a type of experimental magnetic shielding box of RLG, we design a new portable three-axis magnetic field measurement system. This system has both high modularity degree and reliability, with measuring range at ±48Gs, max resolution at 1.5mGs and can measure the magnetic field in x, y and z direction simultaneously. Besides, its PC client software can be easily customized to achieve the automatic DAQ, analysis, plotting and storage functions. The experiment shows that, this system can meet the measuring requirements of certain type of experimental magnetic shielding box for RLG, meanwhile, for the measurement of some other magnetic shielding effectiveness, this system is also applicable.

21 Sep 1983TL;DR: In this paper, a ring laser gyro includes a resonator structure having a dielectric cylindrical ring with highly polished surfaces, which is of such thickness and length as to support propagation only of selected modes of energy excitation by confining to within the ring wavelengths of light impinging the surfaces of the ring at other than the critical angle and allowing the selected mode of light to escape into the gain medium at critical angle.
Abstract: A ring laser gyro includes a resonator structure having a dielectric cylindrical ring with highly polished surfaces. The dielectric cylindrical ring is of such thickness and length as to support propagation only of selected modes of energy excitation by confining to within the ring wavelengths of light impinging the surfaces of the ring at other than the critical angle and allowing the selected mode of light to escape into the gain medium at the critical angle. A gain medium surrounds the dielectric cylinder, and reflectors for extracting counter rotating light heams generated by said gain structure and resonator are included adjacent said dielectric ring to intercept from opposite directions evenescent light waves supported by said dielectric ring.
