TL;DR: In this article , the feasibility of the initial alignment of the gyro-free inertial navigation system (GF-INS) is investigated and the relationship between initial heading and accelerometers' outputs of the GF-IMU is derived.
Abstract: In this paper, feasibility of the initial alignment of the gyro-free inertial navigation system (GF-INS) is investigated. Initial roll and initial pitch are obtained as the conventional INS since centripetal acceleration is very small. Relation between initial heading and accelerometers’ outputs of the gyro-free inertial measurement unit (GF-IMU) is derived. It is determined from the relation whether initial heading can be obtained in 15 GF-IMUs which have been presented in research literatures. The relationship between the accelerometer errors of GF-IMU and the initial heading error is derived. When gyros are additionally attached in one axis or two axes of the body frame, it is investigated that initial heading can be obtained. The initial heading error is also calculated from the accelerometer errors and the gyroscope errors. The results show that the initial heading from only accelerometer outputs of the GF-IMU cannot be used in the GF-INS since the error is too large. It can also be seen from the results that the initial heading can be used in the GF-INS if two gyroscopes are additionally attached to the roll and pitch axes of the body frame.

TL;DR: In this article , a model of the interference of fields from backscattering point sources in a ring optical resonator is presented, and the possibilities of reducing the dissipative and conservative components in the process of ring resonator alignment are discussed.
Abstract: Abstract A model of the interference of fields from backscattering point sources in a ring optical resonator is presented. Examples of calculations of complex coupling coefficients in ring resonators of laser gyroscopes are given. Comparison of the calculation results with the results of model experiments demonstrates good agreement and makes it possible to determine dissipative and conservative backscattering components of individual resonator mirrors. The possibilities of reducing the dissipative and conservative backscattering components in the process of ring resonator alignment are discussed.

TL;DR: In this article , a model of the dynamic elastic torsion of the mechanical dithering devices of ring laser gyroscopes is presented and a method for calibrating such parameters in order to compensate for this effect in attitude integration algorithm is described.
Abstract: We present a model of the dynamic elastic torsion of the mechanical dithering devices of ring laser gyroscopes and analyze its impact on the accuracy of attitude determination in a strapdown inertial navigation system. We also describe a method for calibrating such parameters in order to compensate for this effect in attitude integration algorithm. The method is an extension to the existing calibration technique introduced in 2009 by N.A. Parusnikov of Moscow State University, applicable to tactical and navigation grade inertial systems on a turntable with horizontal rotation axis. New parameters of dynamic elastic torsion are included into the state vector of a linear state-space model subject to estimation. We examine their estimability and predicted covariance, and as present experimental results. We extend the model with three parameters, which was described in our previous work, to the one with nine parameters.

TL;DR: In this paper, a reliability analysis for a 2-for-1 warm standby redundant RLG configuration subject to time varying thermal stress (temperature) is presented, where the cumulative effect of exposure (or damage) models are used, along with the distribution parameter's temperature dependency based on the Arrhenius model.
Abstract: This paper presents a reliability analysis for a 2-for-1 warm standby redundant RLG configuration subject to time varying thermal stress (temperature). Starting from reliability analysis at the component level on ring laser assemblies and support electronics box, a system level reliability model is developed for the configuration. To account for temperature’s time variation, the cumulative effect of exposure (or damage) models are used, along with the distribution parameter’s temperature dependency based on the Arrhenius model. An example is presented to demonstrate how the temperature’s time variation would affect the reliability at both component and system (2-for-l configuration) level. In conclusion, a proposed path-forward is outlined.

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of a laser gyroscope with frequency dithering is described by a system of recurrent equations for the electric fields of counter-propagating waves, and the phenomenon of frequency locking is taken into account in the form of the wave coupling through backward scattering; the frequency bias factor is the controlled phase nonreciprocity.
Abstract: The model of a laser gyroscope (LG) with frequency dithering is described by a system of recurrent equations for the electric fields of counterpropagating waves. The phenomenon of frequency locking is taken into account in the form of the wave coupling through backward scattering; the frequency bias factor is the controlled phase nonreciprocity. The character of the output signal is considered, which corresponds to two types of frequency dithering, namely, sinusoidal and in the form of meander that are produced by various methods, including intracavity phase modulation. Results of calculation of a frequency characteristic of the LG are presented as functions of frequency dithering, rotational velocity and LG parameters. It is shown that the method of processing an output signal by measuring the time interval between intensity oscillations has an advantage due to the absence of so-called dynamic lock-in zones in the output characteristic.
