TL;DR: In this article, two metal sensing apparatuses are used in an operable toy to cause the toy to follow a track of metallic or magnetic material, and the power to the motor is reversed when the metal or magnetic object is sensed.
Abstract: An operable toy utilizes a metal sensing apparatus which includes a tuned circuit which includes a pick-up coil. The resonance frequency of the resonance circuit shifts when the pick-up coil senses a metal or magnetic object. A motor is normally driven in the absence of the sensing of a metal or magnetic object. When the metal or magnetic object is sensed, the frequency shift of the tuned circuit including the pick-up coil attenuates the frequency produced by an oscillator and as the voltage of the signal produced by the oscillator is attenuated, a level detection circuit produces a low output to thereby disconnect the power from the motor. Alternatively, the power to the motor may be reversed. Two metal sensing apparatuses may be utilized in an operable toy to cause the toy to follow a track of metallic or magnetic material.

TL;DR: It is revealed that there are a large amount of high-order harmonic currents in a tightly coupled IPT system, and the integrated LCC compensation circuit is provided as an effective design method to reduce the harmonics.
Abstract: This paper proposes a tightly coupled inductive power transfer (IPT) system for the low-voltage and high-current charging of automatic guided vehicles (AGVs). There are two challenges in the system design. First, the widely varying range of the airgap introduces difficulties to design the compensation circuit. Second, the low-voltage and high-current working condition introduces difficulties to maintain the system efficiency. This paper reveals that there are a large amount of high-order harmonic currents in a tightly coupled IPT system, and we have provided an effective design method to reduce the harmonics. The integrated LCC compensation circuit is selected as a solution, showing four merits: good robustness to the airgap variation, easy controllability, convenience to optimize the efficiency, and low high-order harmonics. A prototype is implemented, and the magnetic coupler size is 220 × 200 × 10 mm. Experimental results show that it achieves 1.78 kW power transfer from a 300 V dc source to a 24 V battery with 86.1% efficiency and a 73.8 A charging current across an airgap of 15 mm. When the airgap varies between 5 and 25 mm, the system power variation is within ±36.7% and the efficiency is not significantly affected.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the interdigital circuit can be arranged to give constant phase velocity over a wide bandwidth (30 per cent), which is the same as the flattened helix (such as has been used for the magnetron amplifier).
Abstract: Because of its high-power handling capacity, the interdigital circuit has been considered for use in traveling-wave-type amplifiers. An analysis is presented here which indicates that this type of circuit can be arranged to give constant phase velocity over a wide bandwidth (30 per cent), as required to give constant gain. The analysis is qualitatively checked experimentally. The impedance parameter (proportional to the cube of the gain in db) is approximately the same as the flattened helix (such as has been used for the magnetron amplifier) and about one-third that of the conventional circular helix.

TL;DR: In this article, a radial mode piezoelectric transformer (PT) is used to replace the conventional inductor-capacitor resonant tank saving valuable space and cost.
Abstract: In a ballast circuit, the piezoelectric transformer (PT) is used to replace the conventional inductor-capacitor resonant tank saving valuable space and cost. During circuit operation, a very high voltage is required to initially ignite the lamp while during sustained operation the voltage requirements are significantly reduced. With ballast in mind, a design process has been developed to optimize a radial mode piezoelectric transformer or Transoner/sup /spl reg// to fit a specific application while simultaneously providing highly efficient performance and the capability to provide ZVS to the switches. The design procedure was verified by a custom-designed PT operating in a 32-W ballast.

TL;DR: In this paper, a tuned resonant circuit, concealed on merchandise being carried through the space, is activated by the energy field, and the decaying electric signal from the tuned resonance circuit is radiated to a receiver.
Abstract: A field of electrostatic, electromagnetic or high frequency radiant energy is provided on a predetermined intermittent cycle in a confined space through which persons are directed. A tuned resonant circuit, concealed on merchandise being carried through the space, is activated by the energy field. During the time interval when the energy field is cut off, the decaying electric signal from the tuned resonant circuit is radiated to a receiver. The received electric signal functions to activate an alarm.
