Abstract: Summary(1) A simplified and improved flow rate meter is described. The instrument is basically a rotameter, the float of which is vertically displaced in proportion to the rate of flow and its position detected electromagnetically. The rate of flow is indicated on a microammeter and a recording galvanometer. The metering chamber and float are designed so that viscosity effects are minimized and the pressure drop through the instrument reduced to less than 3.5 cm of water at any rate of flow. (2) To obtain maximum sensitivity over a given flow range, different metering chambers, with capacities ranging from 100 cc to 3 liters per minute, can be used interchangeably with one detecting unit.

Abstract: Due to their non-polluting nature and environment friendliness, Renewable Energies have gained great deal of attention and deserve a substantial body of both theoretical and empirical research. Amongst other factors, the low operational cost and simple maintenance procedures attributed the Oscillating Water Column (OWC) are perhaps the main reasons why this system is the most used concept for the ocean wave energy capture. In this paper, through extensive experimental research various geometrical designs of an OWC system is investigated and the optimized set up for the maximum energy harness is obtained. The initial chamber dimensions were 10 × 50 × 53 cm with the chamber being placed in an open channel with wave-simulating equipment with dimensions of 16 × 0.7 × .05 m. For various chamber geometries, with the aid of a air rotameter and a Pitot tube equipped with a digital manometer, the outlet air flow and velocity from the chamber was measured and registered. The measurements were then interpreted to provide design data for the optimal geometry of the chamber that may yield the maximum conversion of wave energy to useful energy.

Abstract: Coronary flow per minute per 100 Gm. of heart with venous drainage into the coronary sinus as measured by the nitrous oxide procedure was compared in the dog with left coronary artery inflow per 100 Gm. of heart perfused by this artery as measured by the rotameter. The error arising from epicardial leak of nitrous oxide was prevented or quantitated by appropriate coverage of the heart. Extremes of the comparisons were +21 and -22 per cent, with an average variation of ±12.4 per cent. The nitrous oxide method is regarded as giving semiquantitative coronary flow values per 100 Gm. of left heart in the dog.
