Abstract: The stationary nature of nodes in a mesh network has shifted the main design goal of routing protocols from maintaining connectivity between source and destination nodes to finding high-throughput paths between them. In recent years, numerous link-quality-based routing metrics have been proposed for choosing high-throughput paths for unicast protocols. In this paper we study routing metrics for high-throughput tree or mesh construction in multicast protocols. We show that there is a fundamental difference between unicast and multicast routing in how data packets are transmitted at the link layer, and accordingly there is a difference in how the routing metrics for each of these primitives are designed. We adapt certain routing metrics for unicast for high-throughput multicast routing and propose news ones not previously used for high-throughput. We then study the performance improvement achieved by using different link-quality-based routing metrics via extensive simulation and experiments on a mesh network testbed, using ODMRP as a representative multicast protocol. Our testbed experiment results show that ODMRP enhanced with linkquality routing metrics can achieve up to 17.5% throughput improvement as compared to the original ODMRP.

Abstract: For data collection in large-scale wireless sensor networks (WSNs), dynamic clustering provides a scalable and energy-efficient solution, which uses cluster head (CH) rotation and cluster range assignment algorithms to balance the energy consumption. Nevertheless, most existing works consider the clustering and routing as two isolated issues, which is harmful to the connectivity and energy efficiency of the network. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis on the relations between clustering and routing, and then propose a joint clustering and routing (JCR) protocol for reliable and efficient data collection in large-scale WSN. JCR adopts the backoff timer and gradient routing to generate connected and efficient intercluster topology with the constraint of maximum transmission range. The relations between clustering and routing in JCR are further exploited by theoretical and numerical analyses. The results show that the multihop routing in JCR may lead to the unbalanced CH selection. Then, the solution is provided to optimize the network lifetime by considering the gradient of one-hop neighbor nodes in the setting of backoff timer. Theoretical analysis and simulation results prove the connectivity and efficiency of the network topology generated by JCR.

Abstract: The Routing Information Protocol [RIP] is extended to include a network-wide unique interface identifier [UID] that allows the zeroconfiguration multiple router [R1, R2] network to detect subnet conflicts. Detected conflicts are automatically repaired by the respective routers assigning and advertising new subnet mappings. The extended, Zeroconfiguration Routing Information Protocol [ZRIP] employs a NORMAL/CHANGE status flag associated with each routing table entry to resolve ambiguity between normal routing advertisements and conflict notifications. Address re-mapping and name-to-address resolution is provided to support both network address translation [NAT] and virtualized address paradigms.

Abstract: A server according to the present disclosure includes: a converting unit that converts content data to enhance a real-time property, and creates a packet of the converted content data; and a server control unit that updates a routing table that describes processing for an interest packet, wherein when an interest packet for content including converted content data is received, the server control unit performs control of issuing an interest packet for original content data of the content which is to be converted, and when original content data to be processed is received from a CCN, the server control unit performs control of causing the original content data to be converted, a packet of the converted original content data to be created, and the packet of the converted original content data to be transmitted as a response packet for the interest packet for the content including the converted content data.
