Abstract: With the development of advanced joining techniques, such as laser welding, new structural concepts gain their ground in everyday engineering applications. Steel sandwich panels are one of these concepts, which applications are already very appealing to ship designers. Due to these reasons, it is crucial to supply the designer with the design concept that can help in obtaining best feasible structures. This paper aims to provide just that, with the presentation of a redesign of a traditionally built hoistable cardeck applying steel sandwich panels for decking. Using the approach of optimum design performance of the cardeck has been improved, significantly reducing the weight and the cost of the structure.

TL;DR: In this paper, the aerothermoelastic properties of the composite sandwich panels with two-and three-dimensional lattice cores in supersonic airflow were investigated by using the first-order shear deformation theory.
Abstract: This paper is devoted to investigate the aerothermoelastic properties of the composite sandwich panels with two- and three-dimensional lattice cores in supersonic airflow. Both the top and bottom face sheets of the sandwich panels are composite laminated panels. The two- and three-dimensional lattice cores are composed of triangular grids and pyramidal trusses, respectively. The first-order shear deformation theory is used in the structural modeling. The equivalent thermal expansion coefficients of the triangular grid are obtained by the physical and geometric relations of the deformed core only under the temperature change. The equation of motion of the structural system is formulated using the Hamilton’s principle. The supersonic piston theory is used to evaluate the aerodynamic pressure. The aerothermoelastic properties of the lattice sandwich panels are analyzed by the frequency-domain method. The influences of parameters of the lattice core on the aeroelastic stability of the sandwich panel are investigated. The aerothermoelastic properties of the sandwich composite panels with two- and three-dimensional lattice cores are compared. Some useful results are obtained from the present study.

TL;DR: An apparatus for attaching a sandwich panel to another structure is described in this article, where a hollow pin passes through the panel near the edge to be joined to the structure and a bolt, passing through the edge of the panel, and a barrel nut, inside the hollow of the pin, are used to draw the edges of the panels against a flange attached to a structure.
Abstract: An apparatus for attaching a sandwich panel to another structure. A hollow pin passes through the panel near the edge to be joined to the structure. A bolt, passing through the edge of the panel, and barrel nut, inside the hollow of the pin, are used to draw the edge of the panel against a flange attached to the structure. The panel may be reinforced with doublers or an end cap.
