TL;DR: In this paper, the nonlinear response of a unidirectional sandwich panel that is associated with wrinkling of the face sheets, due to a self-equilibrated loading scheme is presented.
Abstract: The nonlinear response of a unidirectional sandwich panel that is associated with wrinkling of the face sheets, due to a self-equilibrated loading scheme is presented. This loading scheme may be a results of a manufacturing process where the core is tensioned first and the sandwich panel is formed through bonding of the face sheets to the tensioned core while wrinkling occurs as a result of the release of the tensile force of the core, i.e. similar to the manufacturing of electroactive polymers (EAPs) [Wantanaba et al. (2002)] or due to prestressing of the core which is associated with the pre-strain the edge of the core only. These self-equilibrated loads yield compression in the face sheets as well as in the core which may be associated with loss of stability as a result of overall buckling of the entire panel or wrinkling of the face sheets. Thus, for such loading scheme the longitudinal rigidity of the core must be considered although it is small as compared with that of the face sheets. The governing...

TL;DR: An overview of the latest development in precast concrete sandwich panel as an Industrial Building System (IBS) is presented in this paper, where an innovative concept used in the design of these systems and the use of lightweight materials is also discussed.
Abstract: The development of precast sandwich concrete has gained acceptance worldwide in conjunction with the Industrial Building System (IBS). The advancement and improvement of using wall panel has gone through a lot of achievements through the last decade. The usage of precast lightweight sandwich panel has become the alternative to conventional construction using brick wall. The usage of this panel system contributes to a sustainable and environmental friendly construction. This paper presents an overview of the latest development in precast concrete sandwich panel as an IBS. The purpose of this paper is to provide comprehensive information on latest research development of sandwich panel for building construction purposes. The information on sandwich panel’s composition, material, properties, strength, availability, and its usage as structural element are reported. An innovative concept used in the design of these systems and the use of lightweight materials is also discussed.

TL;DR: Results show that the vibroacoustic behaviors of flat sandwich-composite panels are accurately estimated using the used model and compare well to the equivalent panel model (for total transmission loss).
Abstract: This paper presents a detailed experimental validation of a general laminate model to predict the vibroacoustic behavior of flat sandwich-composite panels. The accuracy of the model is investigated using a thin and a thick sandwich panel over a large frequency band. Several indicators are compared including the structural wavenumber, modal density, damping loss factor, radiation efficiency, and sound transmission loss. The accuracy of a simpler model based on identifying effective properties of an equivalent orthotropic panel from the General Laminate Model is also discussed. Results show that the vibroacoustic behaviors of flat sandwich-composite panels are accurately estimated using the used model and compare well to the equivalent panel model (for total transmission loss). This experimental investigation is generic and can be used as a benchmark to validate other sandwich models.
