TL;DR: A wind turbine of the savonius wind turbine type comprises a rotatable member extending along a longitudinal axis and a plurality of blades extending radially outwards from the rotatable members and spaced apart around the circumference thereof as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A wind turbine, of the savonius wind turbine type, comprises a rotatable member extending along a longitudinal axis and a plurality of blades extending radially outwards from the rotatable member and spaced apart around the circumference thereof. The rotatable member is arranged such that, in normal use, the longitudinal axis extends in a substantially vertical direction and the blades travel around the longitudinal axis. The wind turbine further comprising a wind deflector operable to deflect wind to provide a sheltered region for the blades as they travel towards the wind and thereby substantially reducing the drag induced on the turbine.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used industrial exhaust air energy as source of electric power with the help of a Savonius wind turbine to convert exhaust energy to electrical energy, and the results showed that an enclosure with a drag force blocker plate was attached at the outlet side of the exhaust air fans.

TL;DR: In this article, the Savonius wind turbine is used to charge a power bank or other USB-chargeable devices in a private garden using a Do It Yourself (DIY) approach.
Abstract: Putting renewable energy to good use is necessary to deal with one of the greatest challenges of our time, namely, climate change. One problem, however, is that the technology we are using today turns into toxic waste at the end of its useful life, which in particular concerns the blades of wind turbines. We investigated how the ideas of a circular economy can be applied to address this issue. To this end, we built a small wind turbine almost entirely from used materials. The social purpose of this is to raise public awareness about renewable energy technology that is part of a circular economy. Therefore, we chose a reliable and easy-to-build concept for a small wind turbine, which can be reproduced in a “Do It Yourself” (DIY) approach. The core challenges we had to face consisted of how to acquire appropriate used materials and how to improve the efficiency of the system to obtain adequate electrical power. With a financial investment of less than €100, we built a Savonius wind turbine for use in, for example, a private garden to charge a power bank or other USB-chargeable devices.

TL;DR: In this paper, a Savonius type of vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) has been designed, fabricated and its performances were tested and a simulate calculation also has been made to expect the power output generated by designed prototype.
Abstract: The wind turbine is a technology which converting wind kinetic energy to electric power. Wind energy is easily accessible anywhere in the world and is one of renewable energy. However, some location such as in Kuala Terengganu, the lower average wind speed become one of the factors wind turbines has not been used widely as an alternative method for generating the electric power. Thereby, small scale wind turbine which can generate electric power in low wind speed must be designed. In this study, a Savonius type of vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) has been designed, fabricated and its performances were tested. A simulate calculation also has been made to expect the power output generated by designed prototype. From the study, found that although low wind speed, small scale wind turbine still can perform its function and generate electric power. It proves that wind turbines can be as an alternative technology for generating the electric power in Malaysia especially in Kuala Terengganu.
