TL;DR: In this paper, the evolution of a two-dimensional minisuperspace cosmological model in classical and quantum levels by the Noether symmetry approach is studied, where the phase space variables turn out to correspond to the scale factor of a Friedmann?Robertson?Walker model and a scalar field.
Abstract: We study the evolution of a two-dimensional minisuperspace cosmological model in classical and quantum levels by the Noether symmetry approach. The phase space variables turn out to correspond to the scale factor of a Friedmann?Robertson?Walker model and a scalar field with which the action of the model is augmented. It is shown that the minisuperspace of such a model is a two-dimensional manifold with a vanishing Ricci scalar. We present a coordinate transformation which cast the corresponding minisupermetric to a Minkowskian or Euclidean one according to the choices of an ordinary or phantom model for the scalar field. Then, the Noether symmetry of such a cosmological model is investigated by utilizing the behavior of the corresponding Lagrangian under the infinitesimal generators of the desired symmetry. We explicitly calculate the form of the scalar field potential functions for which such symmetries exist. For these potential functions, the exact classical and quantum solutions in the cases where the scalar field is an ordinary or a phantom one are presented and compared.

TL;DR: The scalar potential for the exceptional field theory based on the affine symmetry group E$_9$ was constructed in this article, where the scalar fields appearing in this potential live formally on an infinite-dimensional extended spacetime and transform under E$9$ generalised diffeomorphisms.
Abstract: We construct the scalar potential for the exceptional field theory based on the affine symmetry group E$_9$. The fields appearing in this potential live formally on an infinite-dimensional extended spacetime and transform under E$_9$ generalised diffeomorphisms. In addition to the scalar fields expected from D=2 maximal supergravity, the invariance of the potential requires the introduction of new constrained scalar fields. Other essential ingredients in the construction include the Virasoro algebra and indecomposable representations of E$_9$. Upon solving the section constraint, the potential reproduces the dynamics of either eleven-dimensional or type IIB supergravity in the presence of two isometries.

TL;DR: In this article, the utility of using a higher-order representation of the scalar potential than piecewise linear, and the effects of smoothing the electric field as opposed to simply calculating it from the gradient of the potential at every point were investigated.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider localization of gravity in smooth domain wall solutions of gravity coupled to a scalar field with a generic potential in the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term.
Abstract: We consider localization of gravity in smooth domain wall solutions of gravity coupled to a scalar field with a generic potential in the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term. We discuss conditions on the scalar potential such that domain wall solutions are non-singular. We point out that the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term does not allow flat solutions with localized gravity that violate the weak energy condition. We also point out that in the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term infinite tension flat domain walls violate positivity. In fact, for flat solutions unitarity requires that on the solution the scalar potential be bounded below.
