TL;DR: A wheeled screeding device includes a wheeled support having a frame portion supported by at least one wheel, with the axis of rotation defined by the wheel defining the screed head as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A wheeled screeding device includes a wheeled support having a frame portion supported by at least one wheel, with the at least one wheel defining an axis of rotation. A screed head is mounted to the frame portion and is balanced such that the screed head is at least partially supportable on an uncured concrete surface. The screed head is adapted to impart a force onto the uncured concrete surface. An adjustment device may be operable to adjust a balance of the wheeled support about the axis of rotation to adjust the force imparted by the screed head. The screed head may be pivotable about an axis generally normal to the axis of rotation of the wheel and relative to the at least one wheel to adjust an angle of the screed head relative to the axis of rotation of the wheel.

Abstract: The sampling of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) is an important part of the quality control testing process. The quality of the sample can have a significant effect on the test results. When a sample of HMA is taken, the technician's goal should be to obtain a sample that is representative of the mixture that will be placed on the pavement and is not segregated or contaminated by foreign materials. Several possible choices exist for sampling locations. Samples may be taken from the back of the haul truck at the plant with either a shovel or a robotic sampling device. Samples can be taken at the paving site directly behind the spreader after the mix has been released from the screed but before the first roller has passed over it. Samples can also be taken with cores being cut from the compacted roadway. Each of these methods has its advantages and disadvantages. For this study, samples of two mixes were taken at various locations (truck by shovel, truck by robotic device, behind the spreader, and cores) for a period...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate manufacturers' claims that structural polypropylene fibres provide satisfactory crack control reinforcement and compare the findings against steel fabric used as crack control in screeds where tensile forces are likely to occur.
Abstract: Purpose – To evaluate manufacturers' claims that structural polypropylene fibres provide satisfactory crack control reinforcement and compare the findings against steel fabric used as crack control in screeds where tensile forces are likely to occur.Design/methodology/approach – The procedure used to provide load, deflection data, toughness indices and residual strength factors was compliant with ASTM C1018‐97 and in part ASTM C78‐02 to define first crack toughness and first crack strength.Findings – A142 steel fabric reinforcement as used in screeds was more effective in producing toughness and residual strength when directly compared with the performance of structural polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete. Where polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete did have an advantage over the steel reinforced concrete was when I20 was exceeded and the deflection and crack width was excessive. Steel fabric tended to fail and/or the screed material failed either prior to or in excess of I20, whereas the fibre rein...

TL;DR: The Destruction of Young Lawyers: Beyond One L. by Douglas Litowitz (Akron: University of Akron Press, 2006) as mentioned in this paper is an account of one man's own unhappiness as a law student and large firm new associate, and evidence of the fact there are unhappy lawyers in the world.
Abstract: This is a review of, The Destruction of Young Lawyers: Beyond One L. by Douglas Litowitz (Akron: University of Akron Press, 2006). While the book may be a credible (if tiresome) account of Mr. Litowitz's own unhappiness as a law student and large firm new associate, and evidence of the fact there are unhappy lawyers in the world, it overpromotes itself on two counts. Although it is written by a law professor and published by a university press, and makes broad and universal claims about evils in the legal profession, it is largely a slapdash pastiche of hyperbole and anecdote. Nor is it a balanced view of the profession. Rather, it is one man's attempt to transpose his own journey through hopelessness and despair into a universal truth under the patina of scholarship.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented an apparatus for smoothing and leveling a hardenable paving material on an inclined surface. But the work was performed on a fork lift and not on a vehicle.
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for smoothing and leveling a hardenable paving material on an inclined surface. The apparatus can be detachably mounted onto a vehicle. The apparatus includes a base and at least one screed bar that extends outwardly from the base. The screed bar is capable of being angularly adjustable with respect to the base. The angle between the screed bar and the base can be adjusted so that the screed bar can be positioned in a substantially parallel relationship with a surface that is to be paved. The apparatus can be moved parallel to the surface to be paved so that the screed bar traverses across and levels hardenable material that has been deposited on the inclined surface. Upon completion of paving operations, the apparatus can be detached from the vehicle. In one embodiment, the apparatus can be mounted on a fork lift.
