TL;DR: An apparatus and method for pivoting a screed assembly during screeding of placed and/or poured, uncured concrete or like loose, spreadable materials is described in this paper.
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for pivoting a screed assembly during screeding of placed and/or poured, uncured concrete or like loose, spreadable materials to maintain proper screeding contact by the screeding assembly with the concrete or like material by counteracting the force of concrete or other like material acting against the screed assembly as it is moved along the concrete The apparatus includes a support, preferably of the self-propelled type, a boom and boom mount, and a pivot between the boom and the screed assembly The axis of the pivot extends generally perpendicularly to the screeding direction in which the screed sassmblyis moved A power source, such as a pair of fluid cylinders, rotates the screed about the pivot axis, preferably in response to an electro-hydraulic leveling sensor mounted on the screed The lateral incline of the screed perpendicular to the screeding direction may be controlled about additional pivot axes orthogonal to the first A power operated elevation control is preferably responsive to a fixed laser beam reference plane positioned externally of the screed assembly The boom is telescoping and has multiple sections for extending and retracting the screeding assembly with respect to the support The screed preferably includes a vibration assembly vibrationally isolated from the remainder of the screed for smoothing the concrete

TL;DR: A road resurfacing or repaving machine is described in this paper, where a preliminary scarifier breaks up the top of the heated road surface and a main scarifier behind the main heater further scarifies the hot road material and the road surface.
Abstract: A road resurfacing or repaving machine is disclosed. The machine is self-propelled, and has a chassis. A preliminary heater depends from the machine chassis to provide preliminary heat to the underlying road. A preliminary scarifier breaks up the top of the heated road surface. A main heater behind the preliminary scarifier provides a second heating action, and a main scarifier behind the main heater further scarifies the hot road material and the road surface. Spray means sprays liquid asphalt cutback over the hot, scarified material. A first macadam dispensing device behind the spray means dispenses new hot mix material to the hot, sprayed material and road surface to make up solid material lost through pot hole formation or other road deterioration. A first mixer commingles the newly added hot mix with the old, sprayed, scarified material on the road surface. A first screed levels and at least partly compacts this material to form a first lift. Behind the first screed, a second dispensing device deposits additional, entirely new hot mix on the road surface. A second mixing device mixes this additional hot mix material in situ. Finally, a second screed levels and compacts this new hot mix to provide a second road lift.

TL;DR: A wheeled screeding device includes a wheeled support having a frame portion supported by at least one wheel, with the axis of rotation defined by the wheel defining the screed head as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A wheeled screeding device includes a wheeled support having a frame portion supported by at least one wheel, with the at least one wheel defining an axis of rotation. A screed head is mounted to the frame portion and is balanced such that the screed head is at least partially supportable on an uncured concrete surface. The screed head is adapted to impart a force onto the uncured concrete surface. An adjustment device may be operable to adjust a balance of the wheeled support about the axis of rotation to adjust the force imparted by the screed head. The screed head may be pivotable about an axis generally normal to the axis of rotation of the wheel and relative to the at least one wheel to adjust an angle of the screed head relative to the axis of rotation of the wheel.

TL;DR: In this paper, a portable screen mounted a gasoline engine which drives a vibrating shaft and was adapted with handles for being used in "wet" or "mud" screeding without requiring forms as guide supports.
Abstract: A lightweight and portable screen mounts a gasoline engine which drives a vibrating shaft and is adapted with handles for being used in "wet" or "mud" screeding without requiring forms as guide supports.

TL;DR: In this paper, a measuring arm (12) is attached to a frame supporting a screed (5), and a height sensor (19) is also attached to the arm (18) of the screed.
Abstract: A measuring arm (12) is attached to a frame (5a) supporting a screed (5). Height sensors (13) and (14) are attached to the measuring arm (12), and a height sensor (19) is also attached to the arm (18) of the screed (5). The spacing must remain constant between the rear end of the screed (5) and the height sensor (19), between the height sensor (19) and the height sensor (14), and between the height sensor (14) and the height sensor (13). A distance sensor to calculate the travel distance is provided on the tractor unit (1). The relative height Ho of both height sensors (13) and (14) to the screed (5) must always remain constant, regardless of the tilt of the screed (5) and the measuring arm (12). The sensors (13), and (14), and (17) are connected to the arithmetic unit (30). The height sensor (19) is connected to the arithmetic unit (40). The arithmetic unit (30) receives an output signal from the height sensors (13) and (14) and calculates the thickness of the pavement. The arithmetic unit (40) detects the uneven level of the unpaved surface on the basis of the output signal from the height sensor (19) and controls the screed (5) in order to offset the unevenness. The operating conditions are set on the control unit (30) via a recording medium such as an IC card.
