TL;DR: A laterally and vertically adjustable support bracket can be coupled to an end of concrete finishing equipment such as a vibratory concrete screed to permit the equipment to operate on a concrete surface which includes obstructions extending vertically from the edge area as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A laterally and vertically adjustable support bracket can be coupled to an end of concrete finishing equipment such as a vibratory concrete screed to permit the equipment to be operated on a concrete surface which includes obstructions extending vertically from the edge area. The adjustable support bracket includes a vertical bracket element which is coupled to the end of the concrete finishing equipment. A vertically extending member is spaced apart from the vertical bracket element and engages a load bearing surface located outboard of the concrete surface. A laterally extending member extends between the vertical bracket element and the vertically extending member and includes various adjustment devices for varying the lateral spacing and relative vertical alignment between the vertical bracket element and the vertically extending member. The structure of the adjustable bracket permits the end of the concrete finishing equipment to operate inboard of the vertically extending obstruction while being supported by the load bearing surface located outboard of the concrete surface.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present results obtained in the development of a laboratory test procedure for the evaluation of gaseous emissions of asphalt rubber bituminous mixtures in standard, controlled conditions unaffected by site-specific factors.
Abstract: The superior performance of bituminous mixtures containing crumb rubber from end-of-life tyres has been widely documented from a structural and functional point of view. However, potential impact of the use of crumb rubber on the health of workers in pavement construction sites has been the subject of a limited number of investigations, with a consequent gap in currently available technical knowledge. Following previous research work focused on the chemical analysis of fumes sampled on site, in this paper the Authors present results obtained in the development of a laboratory test procedure for the evaluation of gaseous emissions of asphalt rubber bituminous mixtures in standard, controlled conditions unaffected by site-specific factors. The investigation included monitoring of emissions at the paver's driving seat and at the screed during the laying of gap-and dense-graded wearing course mixtures in three different sites. Laboratory tests were performed by following a fume-generation protocol and by measuring the contents of volatile organic compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in produced emissions. Comparison of results derived from laboratory and field data was carried out in absolute terms and within a carcinogenic risk assessment model. It was found that the proposed laboratory procedure yields emissions which in most cases are similar to those recorded on site at the paver's screed and that lead to a conservative risk estimate

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for controlling a paving operation includes applying asphalt to a surface using a screed mounted on a paving machine, scanning a surface of the asphalt as it is applied by the screed immediately behind the paving machine using a thermal scanner mounted on the paving machines, and transmitting a signal indicative of a scanned temperature of asphalt from the paving Machine.
Abstract: A system and method for controlling a paving operation includes applying asphalt to a surface using a screed mounted on a paving machine, scanning a surface of the asphalt as it is applied by the screed immediately behind the paving machine using a thermal scanner mounted on the paving machine, and transmitting a signal indicative of a scanned temperature of the asphalt from the paving machine. The signal is received at the compactor and is indicative of the scanned temperature of the asphalt. The signal is used to notify a compactor operator at the compactor.

TL;DR: In this paper, a paving thickness measurement system, a paving machine and a paving measurement method are described, which includes a thickness measuring sensor, a thickness controller and a thickness measurement output apparatus.
Abstract: The invention discloses a paving thickness measurement system, a paving machine and a paving thickness measurement method. The paving thickness measurement system includes a thickness measuring sensor, a thickness measuring controller and a thickness measuring output apparatus. The thickness measuring sensor is used for detecting the height or height deviation relative to a leveling standard of a back edge of a screed plate. The thickness measuring controller calculates the paving thickness according to an initial value of the paving thickness and the height or height deviation detected by the thickness measuring sensor and then sends the paving thickness to the thickness measuring output apparatus. The thickness measuring output apparatus is used for outputting or displaying the paving thickness. The height deviation refers to the height of the back edge of the screed plate relative to the leveling standard minus the preset height of the thickness measuring sensor. By means of measurement of the height or height deviation relative to the leveling standard of the back edge of the screed plate through the thickness measuring sensor with combination of the initial value of the paving thickness, the paving thickness can be calculated. The paving thickness measurement system and the method are more simple and reliable and are in conformity with engineering practice.
