TL;DR: In this paper, an exhaust gas purification system for a hybrid vehicle is described, where an internal combustion engine and an electric motor are each arranged for providing power output for the vehicle.
Abstract: An exhaust gas purification system for a hybrid vehicle is disclosed. An internal combustion engine and an electric motor are each arranged for providing power output for the vehicle. An exhaust gas purification device is provided in an exhaust gas passage of the engine to treat exhaust gas components contained in the exhaust gas from the engine. A controller is arranged and configured to selectively perform a regeneration operation of the exhaust gas purification device to burn and remove deposits accumulated in the exhaust gas purification device. The controller is further arranged and configured to control the internal combustion engine and the electric motor such that the exhaust gas purification device is restrained from reaching an excessive temperature during the regeneration operation of the exhaust gas purification device.

05 Dec 2002TL;DR: In this paper, a first exhaust emission purification device and a second exhaust emission removal device, each of which has a continuously regenerating type DPF and an SCR catalyst, were used to purify a diesel engine.
Abstract: A first exhaust emission purification device first and a second exhaust emission purification device, each have a continuously regenerating type DPF and an SCR catalyst to constitute exhaust emission purification system for a diesel engine. When the exhaust gas temperature is within a low-temperature region lower than a predetermined temperature region, the exhaust gas temperature is raised.

18 Sep 1998TL;DR: In this article, a system is provided for rapidly changing the flow of recirculated exhaust gas to each cylinder (61-66) of an internal combustion engine operating on diesel fuel or other fuels.
Abstract: A system is provided for rapidly changing the flow of recirculated exhaust gas to each cylinder (61-66) of an internal combustion engine operating on diesel fuel or other fuels. The system preferably includes an exhaust gas recirculation line having an exhaust gas recirculation pump (146) along with a reservoir and cooler (152) for storing a desired volume of recirculated exhaust gas. Recirculated exhaust gas is preferably supplied from the reservoir to each cylinder of the associated engine through respective recirculated exhaust gas conduits (191-195). A metering valve (161-166) is preferably disposed within each recirculated exhaust gas conduit immediately adjacent to each cylinder. The metering valves provide uniform distribution of recirculated exhaust gas to the respective cylinders and allow the system to rapidly change the flow of recirculated exhaust gas to each cylinder. The system provides recirculated exhaust gas at a point close to the combustion chamber where it is needed for effective reduction of undesirable NOx emissions.

TL;DR: In this article, the exhaust manifold of a turbocharged internal combustion engine is divided into sections, and the engine exhaust from one of the sections is recirculated to the intake manifold.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a turbocharged internal combustion engine. The exhaust manifold of the engine is divided into sections, and the engine exhaust from one of the sections is recirculated to the intake manifold. The engine cylinders that feed the EGR exhaust manifold section alternate in the engine firing order with the other cylinders, thereby providing a substantially uniform flow of exhaust gas to all of the cylinders. The turbine of the engine turbocharger is divided into two sections, one having a smaller flow area than the other. The turbine section having the smaller flow area is connected to receive the exhaust gasses from the exhaust manifold section that also supplies the EGR.

11 Mar 2006TL;DR: In this paper, an exhaust gas recirculation device for an internal combustion engine, in particular in a motor vehicle, has been described, where the exhaust gas re-circulation valve is axially adjusted relative to the primary intake line.
Abstract: The invention relates to an exhaust gas recirculation device (1) for an internal combustion engine, in particular in a motor vehicle, having an exhaust gas recirculation line (2) for introducing exhaust gas into a primary intake line (4), with an exhaust gas recirculation valve (3) for controlling the exhaust gas recirculation line (2). The exhaust gas recirculation line (2) has an end section (7) which runs into the primary intake line (4) with an orifice opening (8). In order to improve the reliability of the exhaust gas recirculation device (1), the exhaust gas recirculation valve (3) has a sleeve (10) arranged in the fresh air line (4), said sleeve (10) enclosing the exhaust gas recirculation line (2) in the region of the orifice opening (8), being mounted in the fresh air line (4) so as to be axially adjustable, and presenting a radial internal nozzle contour (11) with a flow cross section which first decreases and then increases in size in the flow direction, the exhaust gas recirculation valve (3) having an actuating device (12) for axially adjusting the sleeve (10) relative to the primary intake line.
