16 Jun 2008TL;DR: In this paper, a diesel exhaust treatment system for treating exhaust gas from a diesel engine comprises at least one diesel particulate filter, a diesel fluid mixing chamber and a selective catalytic reduction converter (SCR).
Abstract: A diesel exhaust treatment system for treating exhaust gas from a diesel engine comprises at least one diesel particulate filter, at least one diesel exhaust fluid mixing chamber and at least one selective catalytic reduction converter (SCR). In one desirable embodiment, plural diesel particulate filters are arranged in parallel and plural SCRs are arranged in parallel. These components including the diesel exhaust fluid mixing chamber can be included in a common housing with the exhaust flow reversing directions a plurality of times as it passes through the treatment system from an exhaust inlet to an exhaust outlet. The housing can be coupled to one vehicle frame rail with most of the housing and components contained therein positioned outside the outer surface of the one frame rail.

27 Jun 2007TL;DR: In this paper, an exhaust gas recirculation device with a turbocharger having a turbine (5b) and a compressor (5a) on an intake pipe (3), a low-pressure EGR passage connecting the exhaust pipe (4) downstream of the turbine and the intake pipe(3) upstream of the compressor, and a filter (13) provided on the exhaust manifold downstream of a turbine, is described.
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation device includes a turbocharger (5) having a turbine (5b) on an exhaust pipe (4) and a compressor (5a) on an intake pipe (3), a low-pressure EGR passage (31) connecting the exhaust pipe (4) downstream of the turbine (5b) and the intake pipe (3) upstream of the compressor (5a), and a filter (13) provided on the exhaust pipe (4) downstream of the turbine (5b). In the device, an exhaust throttle valve (19) is disposed on the exhaust pipe (4) that is downstream of the filter (13) and that is upstream of a site of connection with the low-pressure EGR passage (31).

19 Mar 1986TL;DR: In this article, an exhaust silencer device for an internal combustion engine, for placement in the exhaust pipe of the engine, is described, which consists of a damper plate disposed in exhaust pipe and pivotably about a shaft substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of exhaust pipe between a closed position and an open position.
Abstract: The invention relates to an exhaust silencer device for an internal combustion engine, for placement in the exhaust pipe of the engine The device according to the invention comprises a damper plate disposed in the exhaust pipe and pivotably about a shaft substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the exhaust pipe between a closed position, in which the damper plate covers the major portion of the exhaust pipe flow area, and an open position, in which it permits substantially free flow through the exhaust pipe An operating device is arranged to actuate the damper plate to adjust its position dependent on the exhaust flow through the exhaust pipe

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method for bringing exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, which is operated at a fuel-lean air/fuel ratio, in contact with an iridium-containing catalyst in a first zone and then in touch with a platinum-containing catalytic converter in a second zone situated downstream of the first zone.
Abstract: This method comprises bringing exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, which is operated at a fuel-lean air/fuel ratio, in contact with an iridium-containing catalyst in a first zone and then in contact with a platinum-containing catalyst in a second zone situated downstream of the first zone. This method is effective for exhaust gas from lean burn engines over a wide temperature range of 200 to 500°C, produces less N2O in a low-temperature range of 200 to 300°C, and can purify exhaust gas stably and effectively even at a high temperature of 700°C or over.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a motorcycle exhaust system, which is less susceptible to the elevated temperature of the exhaust gases and vibrations induced by the motorcycle combustion engine (E) and in which the sectional area can be properly adjusted independence on the operating condition of the motorcycle.
Abstract: To provide a motorcycle exhaust system, which is less susceptible to the elevated temperature of the exhaust gases and vibrations induced by the motorcycle combustion engine (E) and in which the sectional area of the exhaust passage can be properly adjusted independence on the operating condition of the motorcycle combustion engine (E), the motorcycle exhaust system includes a motorcycle combustion engine (E) mounted at a location generally intermediate between front and rear wheels (3 and 9), an exhaust passage fluidly connected at one end with an exhaust port of the motorcycle combustion engine (E), a silencer (17) fluidly connected with the opposite end of the exhaust passage and supported by the motorcycle frame structure (FR) at a location generally above the rear wheel (9); and an exhaust control valve (24) disposed in an inlet of the silencer (17) for variably adjusting the sectional area of the exhaust passage.
