TL;DR: In this article, a tornado-type air intake and blowing device has an exhaust port communicating with an exhaust duct, an air supply chamber which is provided so as to surround the exhaust port and to which air is supplied through an air-supply inlet, and air blowing ports blowing air supplied into the air supply by swirling the air from the outer periphery of the exhaust ports diagonally downward.
Abstract: A tornado type air intake and blowing device has an exhaust port communicating with an exhaust duct, an air supply chamber which is provided so as to surround the exhaust port and to which air is supplied through an air supply inlet, and air blowing ports blowing air supplied into the air supply chamber by swirling the air from the outer periphery of the exhaust port diagonally downward, the air blowing ports being provided in a side wall part of the air supply chamber, whereby the exhaust port can be formed in the entire area of the lower opening surface of the air supply chamber, the outside diameter of the air supply chamber is sufficient if it is equal to an outside diameter corresponding to the required opening diameter of the exhaust port and, accordingly, a device body can be formed compact.

TL;DR: An exhaust gas purifying device for removing NOx from an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine by adding a reducing agent of NOx in the exhaust gas is disclosed in this article, wherein mixing of exhaust gas and the reducing agent sprayed through a spray nozzle is accelerated.
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying device for removing NOx from an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine by adding a reducing agent of NOx in the exhaust gas is disclosed wherein mixing of the exhaust gas and the reducing agent sprayed through a spray nozzle is accelerated. In this exhaust gas purifying device, a spray nozzle of a urea-water solution is directed against the flow of the exhaust gas or directed vertically upward.

TL;DR: In this article, a temperature control system for an internal combustion engine having a catalyst arranged in the exhaust system for purifying noxious components in exhaust gases emitted from the engine, and an exhaust gas recirculation passage connected to the intake system and exhaust system, is provided.
Abstract: A catalyst temperature control system is provided for an internal combustion engine having a catalyst arranged in the exhaust system for purifying noxious components in exhaust gases emitted from the engine, and an exhaust gas recirculation passage connected to the intake system and the exhaust system for returning part of the exhaust gases from the exhaust system to the intake system. The temperature of a catalyst bed of the catalyst is detected. An ECU increases a recirculation amount of exhaust gases flowing through the exhaust gas recirculation passage, when the detected temperature of the catalyst bed is higher than a first predetermined value, and enriches the air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine. when the detected temperature of the catalyst bed is higher than a second predetermined value upon the lapse of a predetermined time period after the start of increase of the recirculation amount.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for reducing the harmful products of combustion comprises an enclosed vessel adapted to contain a quantity of volatile liquid fuel and a means for extracting gaseous vapors from the fuel and for mixing the vapors with the combustion supporting gas for combustion in an internal combustion engine.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the harmful products of combustion comprises an enclosed vessel adapted to contain a quantity of volatile liquid fuel and a means for extracting gaseous vapors from the fuel and for mixing the vapors with the combustion supporting gas for combustion in an internal combustion engine. A thermal reactor is included into which the combustion exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine are discharged. A flow limiting valve is interposed in the path of the exhaust gases from the thermal reactor for discharging a first portion of the exhaust gases to the atmosphere and returning a second portion of the exhaust gases to the thermal reactor vessel. Also provided is a valve for discharging the second portion of the exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine at a temperature below the boiling range of the liquid fuel into the vessel below the surface of the liquid fuel therein and an ultrasonic generator for imparting ultrasonic energy to the exhaust gases.

TL;DR: In this paper, an apparatus for operating an intake valve and an exhaust valve of an internal combustion engine has a sensor for generating an output distinguishing an engine operation under cold condition from other engine operations.
Abstract: An apparatus for operating an intake valve and an exhaust valve of an internal combustion engine has a sensor for generating an output distinguishing an engine operation under cold condition from the other engine operations and an intake valve gear for the intake valve that incorporates an intake variable valve timing mechanism. The apparatus also includes an exhaust valve gear for the exhaust valve that incorporates an exhaust variable valve timing mechanism. A control unit is provided, which is operatively responsive to the output of the sensor to condition the exhaust variable valve timing mechanism for providing an advanced closing timing of the exhaust valve before a top dead center, and at the same time condition the intake variable valve timing mechanism for providing an advanced opening timing of the intake valve which is disposed before the top dead center to provide a predetermined valve overlap between the exhaust and intake valves, whereby HC emission via the exhaust valve is reduced remarkably without deteriorating stable operation of the engine.
