TL;DR: In this paper, a compact, exhasut gas driven air cycle air conditioning system including an expansion turbine, two compressors, two heat exchangers and an exhaust turbine which is preferably controlled by means of an exhaust gas bypass arrangement and supplies either hot or cold conditioning air to a load air space.
Abstract: A compact, air cycle air conditioning system including compressor, turbine, heat exchanger and high speed electric motor is thermostatically controlled to supply either hot or cold conditioned air to a load air space. In a second arrangement, compact, exhaust gas driven air cycle air conditioning system including a compressor, turbine, two heat exchangers and an exhaust turbine is controlled by means of an exhaust gas bypass arrangement and supplies either hot or cold conditioned air to a load air space. In a third arrangement compact, exhasut gas driven air cycle air conditioning system includes an expansion turbine, two compressors, two heat exchangers and an exhaust turbine which is preferably controlled by means of an exhaust gas bypass arrangement and supplies either hot or cold conditioning air to a load air space.

19 Mar 1984TL;DR: In this article, a testing apparatus for measuring the particulate and/or gaseous content of an exhaust source for use in evaluating the exhaust emissions of internal combustion engine provides both fixed flow and proportional flow control of the diluted particulate containing sample.
Abstract: A testing apparatus for measuring the particulate and/or gaseous content of an exhaust source for use in evaluating the exhaust emissions of internal combustion engine provides both fixed flow and proportional flow control of the diluted particulate containing sample. The sample is diluted with carefully metered, clean dry air by one or more hybrid electrical-fluid control circuits for remarkably improved response time and accuracy.

09 Sep 1993TL;DR: In this paper, a wall-flow filter made of a porous ceramic material for capturing carbon components contained in the exhaust gas and burning up the captured carbon components was used to purify exhaust gas from a diesel engine.
Abstract: Apparatus for purifying exhaust gas from a diesel engine (1) comprises a wall-flow filter (3) made of a porous ceramic material for capturing carbon components contained in the exhaust gas and burning up the captured carbon components, a first exhaust pipe (2) for introducing the exhaust gas into the filter (3), a second exhaust pipe (4) for introducing the exhaust gas purified by the filter (3) a bypass pipe (6) bypassing the filter (3), first (8) and second (9) valves arranged inside of the first (2) and bypass (6) pipes, respectively, for controlling the exhaust gas flow, a heater (17) for burning up carbon components captured in the filter (3), first (13) and second (14) temperature sensors for detecting temperatures in the first pipe (2) and the filter (3), respectively, and a controller (7) for controlling opening and closing of the first (8) and second (9) valves based on the temperature difference between temperatures detected by first (13) and second (14) temperature sensors to prevent the filter (3) from cracking.

TL;DR: In this paper, an air-pollution preventive system for use with motor vehicle internal combustion engines for effectively reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases emitted from the engines during the city-road driving of the motor vehicle comprises means for recirculating exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold into the intake manifold only when the vacuum in the manifold is lower than a predetermined lever concurrently with the throttle valve of the carburetor being within a predetermined range of open positions.
Abstract: An air-pollution preventive system for use with motor vehicle internal combustion engines for effectively reducing the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases emitted from the engines during the city-road driving of the motor vehicle comprises means for recirculating the exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold into the intake manifold only when the vacuum in the intake manifold is lower than a predetermined lever concurrently with the throttle valve of the carburetor being within a predetermined range of open positions. The means for recirculating the exhaust gases comprises a recirculating passage, a valve for opening and closing the passage, and a double-action cam which is both axially movable in response to intake manifold vacuum conditions and angularly displaced in response to movement of the throttle valve to open the valve.

TL;DR: In this paper, an anti-pollution system, which removes exhaust gas pollutants, effectively eliminates carbon monoxide, unburnt hydrocarbons, odors and organic and inorganic particulates from the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines or other sources of combustion products or pollution, is provided.
Abstract: The anti-pollution system, which removes exhaust gas pollutants, effectively eliminates carbon monoxide, unburnt hydrocarbons, odors and organic and inorganic particulates from the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines or other sources of combustion products or pollution, is provided. The radiant monolith-catalytic converter stack continuously incinerates and eliminates the undesirable and harmful pollution from the exhaust stream. An auxiliary burner, located upstream of the radiant monolith stack, provides additional heat as required to maintain the monolith stack at a temperature to provide radiant heat energy to incinerate soot particles and unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust gas stream. The hot exhaust gases flow through a heat exchanger to recover heat from the exiting hot exhaust gases, to preheat the incoming exhaust gas stream while simultaneously cooling the outgoing cleaned exhaust gas stream. A microcomputer controls the operation of the anti-pollution system by monitoring temperatures, pressures, and burner parameters, and senses the operational parameters of the primary internal combustion engine or other pollution source generating the exhaust gas stream. Automatic system start, run and shutdown are handled by the microcomputer.
