TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a wide variety of recently reported "rule- described" and "prototype-described" phenomena in perceptual classification, which have led to the development of a number of multiple-system models, can be given an alternative interpretation in terms of a single-system exemplar-similarity model.
Abstract: We demonstrate that a wide variety of recently reported "rule-described" and "prototype-described" phenomena in perceptual classification, which have led to the development of a number of multiple-system models, can be given an alternative interpretation in terms of a single-system exemplar-similarity model. The phenomena include various rule- and prototype-described patterns of generalization, dissociations between categorization and similarity judgments, and dissociations between categorization and old-new recognition. The alternative exemplar-based interpretation relies on the idea that similarity is not an invariant relation but a context-dependent one. Similarity relations among exemplars change systematically because of selective attention to dimensions and because of changes in the level of sensitivity relating judged similarity to distance in psychological space. Adaptive learning principles may help explain the systematic influence of the selective attention process and of modulation in sensitivity settings on judged similarity.

TL;DR: This review presents the state of the art in distributional semantics, focusing on its assets and limits as a model of meaning and as a method for semantic analysis.
Abstract: Distributional semantics is a usage-based model of meaning, based on the assumption that the statistical distribution of linguistic items in context plays a key role in characterizing their semantic behavior. Distributional models build semantic representations by extracting co-occurrences from corpora and have become a mainstream research paradigm in computational linguistics. In this review, I present the state of the art in distributional semantics, focusing on its assets and limits as a model of meaning and as a method for semantic analysis.

TL;DR: This paper examines the two related concepts of semantic prosody and semantic preference with a definition, a review of relevant current positions and a number of corpus-based experiments conducted.
Abstract: In this paper I wish to examine the two related concepts of semantic prosody and semantic preference. I will begin the section on each with a definition, attempt a review of relevant current positions and then describe a number of corpus-based experiments I conducted to throw light on the two phenomena. Finally, I will try to draw some conclusions about the relationship between them.

TL;DR: The findings support the view that the syntax of verbs is a quite regular, although complex, projection from their semantics, and related to the problem of verb-vocabulary acquisition in young children.

TL;DR: In this paper, the system allows a user to create a semantic object data model of the database schema, which is defined by one or more semantic objects, each of which includes attributes that describe a characteristic of the semantic objects.
Abstract: A computer-based system for allowing a user to create a relational database schema. The system allows a user to create a semantic object data model of the database schema. The semantic object data model is defined by one or more semantic objects, each of which includes one or more attributes that describe a characteristic of the semantic objects. The attributes are defined as being either simple value attributes that describe a single characteristic of the semantic object; group attributes that include one or more member attributes that collectively describe a characteristic of the semantic object; formula attributes that set forth a computation that describes a characteristic of a semantic object; or object link attributes that define a relationship between two or more semantic objects. Once the semantic object data model is created, the system validates the semantic objects to ensure no modeling errors have been made and transforms the semantic objects and their included attributes into a plurality of relational database tables that will store data as defined by the semantic object data model.
