Abstract: Ontologies are consensual representations of a domain of discourse and the backbone of the future Semantic Web. Currently, however, only a fraction of Web users can take part in the process of building ontologies. In this paper, we show that standard Wiki technology can be used as an ontology development platform, reducing entry barriers for the participation of users in the creation and maintenance of ontologies, and describe our first OntoWiki prototype.

Abstract: It is now widely accepted that ontologies play a critical role in achieving the goal of machine understandable web, also known as semantic web. In order to develop ontologies, several methodologies have been proposed during the last two decades. Despite the fact, that quite a number of ontology engineering methodologies have been proposed, still the field lacks widely accepted and mature methodologies. Most methodologies lack sufficient details of techniques and activities employed in them. However, some methodologies provide sufficient details including METHONTOLOGY. This article discusses and reports a critical analysis and comparison of these methodologies. The analysis is performed based on a criterion, derived from related literature, trends and needs which evolved over the years. The results of the analysis showed that there is no completely mature methodology. Therefore, this research may act as a preliminary guide to come with a state of art ontology engineering methodology, bridging up the existing gaps and shortfalls.

Abstract: Currently a large number of Web sites are driven by Content Management Systems (CMS) which manage textual and multimedia content but also - inherently - carry valuable information about a site's structure and content model. Exposing this structured information to the Web of Data has so far required considerable expertise in RDF and OWL modelling and additional programming effort. In this paper we tackle one of the most popular CMS: Drupal. We enable site administrators to export their site content model and data to the Web of Data without requiring extensive knowledge on Semantic Web technologies. Our modules create RDFa annotations and --- optionally --- a SPARQL endpoint for any Drupal site out of the box. Likewise, we add the means to map the site data to existing ontologies on the Web with a search interface to find commonly used ontology terms. We also allow a Drupal site administrator to include existing RDF data from remote SPARQL endpoints on the Web in the site. When brought together, these features allow networked RDF Drupal sites that reuse and enrich Linked Data. We finally discuss the adoption of our modules and report on a use case in the biomedical field and the current status of its deployment.

Abstract: Sensor-mission assignment involves the allocation of sensor and other information-providing resources to missions in order to cover the information needs of the individual tasks in each mission. This is an important problem in the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) domain, where sensors are typically over-subscribed, and task requirements change dynamically. This paper approaches the sensor-mission assignment problem from a Semantic Web perspective: the core of the approach is a set of ontologies describing mission tasks, sensors, and deployment platforms. Semantic reasoning is used to recommend collections of types of sensors and platforms that are known to be "fit-for-purpose" for a particular task, during the mission planning process. These recommended solutions are used to constrain a search for available instances of sensors and platforms that can be allocated at mission execution-time to the relevant tasks. An interface to the physical sensor environment allows the instances to be configured to operate as a coherent whole and deliver the necessary data to users. Feedback loops exist throughout, allowing re-planning of the sensor-task fitness, reallocation of instances, and reconfiguration of the sensor network.
