TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the development of a configurable interoperation environment for SWRL built in Protege-OWL, the most widely-used OWL development platform.
Abstract: Rule languages and rule systems are widely used in business applications including computer-aided training, diagnostic fact finding, compliance monitoring, and process control. However, there is little interoperability between current rule-based systems. Interoperation is one of the main goals of the Semantic Web, and developing a language for sharing rules is often seen as a key step in reaching this goal. The Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL) is an important first step in defining such a rule language. This paper describes the development of a configurable interoperation environment for SWRL built in Protege-OWL, the most widely-used OWL development platform. This environment supports both a highly-interactive, full-featured editor for SWRL and a plugin mechanism for integrating third party rule engines. We have integrated the popular Jess rule engine into this environment, thus providing one of the first steps on the path to rule integration on the Web.

TL;DR: SenticNet is a publicly available resource for opinion mining built exploiting AI and Semantic Web techniques and uses dimensionality reduction to infer the polarity of common sense concepts and hence provide a public resource for mining opinions from natural language text at a semantic, rather than just syntactic, level.
Abstract: Today millions of web-users express their opinions about many topics through blogs, wikis, fora, chats and social networks. For sectors such as e-commerce and e-tourism, it is very useful to automatically analyze the huge amount of social information available on the Web, but the extremely unstructured nature of these contents makes it a difficult task. SenticNet is a publicly available resource for opinion mining built exploiting AI and Semantic Web techniques. It uses dimensionality reduction to infer the polarity of common sense concepts and hence provide a public resource for mining opinions from natural language text at a semantic, rather than just syntactic, level.

TL;DR: This paper discusses technology to support the use of UML for representing ontologies and domain knowledge in the Semantic Web and proposes an extension to RDF allowing the identification of property-- resource pairs in a model for which 'closed world' reasoning cannot be used due to incomplete knowledge.
Abstract: This paper discusses technology to support the use of UML for representing ontologies and domain knowledge in the Semantic Web. Two mappings have been defined and implemented using XSLT to produce Java classes and an RDF schema from an ontology represented as a UML class diagram and encoded using XMI. A Java application can encode domain knowledge as an object diagram realised as a network of instances of the generated classes. Support is provided for marshalling and unmarshalling this object-oriented knowledge to and from an RDF/XML serialisation. The paper also proposes an extension to RDF allowing the identification of property-- resource pairs in a model for which 'closed world' reasoning cannot be used due to incomplete knowledge.

TL;DR: Racer is described, which can be considered as a core inference engine for the semantic web, which currently supports the web ontology languages DAML+OIL, RDF, and OWL.
Abstract: In this paper we describe Racer, which can be considered as a core inference engine for the semantic web. The Racer inference server offers two APIs that are already used by at least three different network clients, i.e., the ontology editor OilEd, the visualization tool RICE, and the ontology development environment Protege 2. The Racer server supports the standard DIG protocol via HTTP and a TCP based protocol with extensive query facilities. Racer currently supports the web ontology languages DAML+OIL, RDF, and OWL.
