Abstract: The Semantic Web will bring structure to the content of Web pages, being an extension of the current Web, in which information is given a well-defined meaning. Especially within e-commerce applications, Semantic Web technologies in the form of ontologies and metadata are becoming increasingly prevalent and important. This paper introduce KAON - the Karlsruhe Ontology and Semantic WebTool Suite. KAON is developed jointly within several EU-funded projects and specifically designed to provide the ontology and metadata infrastructure needed for building, using and accessing semantics-driven applications on the Web and on your desktop.

Abstract: One of the major barriers to the deployment of Linked Data is the difficulty that data publishers have in determining which vocabularies to use to describe the semantics of data. This system report describes Linked Open Vocabularies (LOV), a high quality catalogue of reusable vocabularies for the description of data on the Web. The LOV initiative gathers and makes visible indicators that have not been previously harvested such as the interconnections between vocabularies, version history along with past and current referent (individual or organization). LOV goes beyond existing Semantic Web vocabulary search engines and takes into consideration the value's property type, matched with a query, to improve vocabulary terms scoring. By providing an extensive range of data access methods (SPARQL endpoint, API, data dump or UI), we try to facilitate the reuse of well-documented vocabularies in the Linked Data ecosystem. We conclude that the adoption in many applications and methods of LOV shows the benefits of such a set of vocabularies and related features to aid the design and publication of data on the Web.

Abstract: Online community sites have replaced the traditional means of keeping a community informed via libraries and publishing. At present, online communities are islands that are not interlinked. We describe different types of online communities and tools that are currently used to build and support such communities. Ontologies and Semantic Web technologies offer an upgrade path to providing more complex services. Fusing information and inferring links between the various applications and types of information provides relevant insights that make the available information on the Internet more valuable. We present the SIOC ontology which combines terms from vocabularies that already exist with new terms needed to describe the relationships between concepts in the realm of online community sites.

Abstract: The Web so far has been incredibly successful at delivering information to human users. So successful actually, that there is now an urgent need to go beyond a browsing human. Unfortunately, the Web is not yet a well organized repository of nicely structured documents but rather a conglomerate of volatile HTML pages. To address this problem, we present the World Wide Web Wrapper Factory (W4F), a toolkit for the generation of wrappers for Web sources, that offers: (1) an expressive language to specify the extraction of complex structures from HTML pages; (2) a declarative mapping to various data formats like XML; (3) some visual tools to make the engineering of wrappers faster and easier.

Abstract: The Web Service Modeling Language (WSML) is a language for the specification of different aspects of Semantic Web Services. It provides a formal language for the Web Service Modeling Ontology WSMO which is based on well-known logical formalisms, specifying one coherent language framework for the semantic description of Web Services, starting from the intersection of Datalog and the Description Logic ${\mathcal SHIQ}$. This core language is extended in the directions of Description Logics and Logic Programming in a principled manner with strict layering. WSML distinguishes between conceptual and logical modeling in order to support users who are not familiar with formal logic, while not restricting the expressive power of the language for the expert user. IRIs play a central role in WSML as identifiers. Furthermore, WSML defines XML and RDF serializations for inter-operation over the Semantic Web.
