Abstract: Testbeds are indispensable for debugging and evaluating wireless embedded systems. While existing testbeds provide ample opportunities for realistic, large-scale experiments, they are limited in their ability to closely observe and control the distributed operation of resource-constrained nodes - access to the nodes is restricted to the serial port. This paper presents FlockLab, a testbed that overcomes this limitation by allowing multiple services to run simultaneously and synchronously against all nodes under test in addition to the traditional serial port service: tracing of GPIO pins to record logical events occurring on a node, actuation of GPIO pins to trigger actions on a node, and high-resolution power profiling. FlockLab's accurate timing information in the low microsecond range enables logical events to be correlated with power samples, thus providing a previously unattained level of visibility into the distributed behavior of wireless embedded systems. In this paper, we describe FlockLab's design, benchmark its performance, and demonstrate its capabilities through several real-world test cases.

Abstract: Latencies of buttonpresses are a staple of cognitive science paradigms. Often keyboards are employed to collect buttonpresses, but their imprecision and variability decreases test power and increases the risk of false positives. Response boxes and data acquisition cards are precise, but expensive and inflexible, alternatives. We propose using open-source Arduino microcontroller boards as an inexpensive and flexible alternative. These boards connect to standard experimental software using a USB connection and a virtual serial port, or by emulating a keyboard. In our solution, an Arduino measures response latencies after being signaled the start of a trial, and communicates the latency and response back to the PC over a USB connection. We demonstrated the reliability, robustness, and precision of this communication in six studies. Test measures confirmed that the error added to the measurement had an SD of less than 1 ms. Alternatively, emulation of a keyboard results in similarly precise measurement. The Arduino performs as well as a serial response box, and better than a keyboard. In addition, our setup allows for the flexible integration of other sensors, and even actuators, to extend the cognitive science toolbox.

The adaptor has a packet-based interface connector at one end, the connector having a positive main link pin, a negative main link pin, a positive auxiliary channel pin, and a negative auxiliary channel pin. At the other end is a micro serial interface connector, wherein multimedia content is transmitted over the cable adaptor and electrical power is supplied over the cable adaptor simultaneously. The cable adaptor has an auxiliary and hot plug detect (HPD) controller utilized to map the auxiliary channel and HPD signals of the packet-based digital display to the micro serial interface ID signal.

Abstract: Universal asynchronous receiver transmitter, abbreviated UART is a integrated circuit used for serial communications over a computer or peripheral device serial port. UARTs are now commonly included in microcontrollers. The universal designation indicates that the data format and transmission speeds are configurable and that the actual electric signaling levels and methods (such as differential signaling etc.) typically are handled by a special driver circuit external to the UART. Baud rate of 20Mbps using clock of 20MHz is used. FIFO (First-In-First Out) is used to store data temporarily during high speed transmission to get synchronization. The design is synthesized in Verilog HDL and reliability of the Verilog HDL implementation of UART is verified by simulated waveforms. We are using Cadence tool for simulation and synthesis.

Abstract: Today the IEEE 1149.1 (JTAG) Tap port is used for many different applications. While initially designed to provide a serial test interface on ICs to facilitate board testing, the Tap port now serves as a serial interface for additional IEEE standards for such things as emulation and debug (IEEE 5001) of ICs and cores, mixed signal testing (IEEE 1149.4) of ICs and cores, embedded core testing (IEEE 1500), and in-system-programming of circuits in ICs and cores (IEEE 1532). The present invention describes a novel method and apparatus of using the JTAG Tap's TMS and/or TCK terminals as general purpose serial Input/Output (I/O) communication terminals. According to the present invention, the Tap's TMS and/or TCK terminal can be used as a serial I/O communication channel between; (1) an IC and an external controller, (2) between a first and second IC, or (3) between a first and second core circuit within an IC. The use of the TMS and/or TCK terminal as serial I/O channels, as described, does not effect the standardized operation of the JTAG Tap, since the TMS and/or TCK I/O operations occur while the Tap is placed in a non-active steady state.

Abstract: The invention relates to a direct current motor GSM wireless remote control device comprising a computer, a wireless mobile communication module, a single-chip microcomputer, and a direct current motor driving module. The computer transmits a control instruction; the control instruction is sent to a remote wireless mobile communication module through the internet network and GSM wireless gateway of China Mobile Communications Corporation; the wireless mobile communication module transmits the instruction to the single-chip microcomputer through serial ports; the single-chip microcomputer with preset functional programs inside transmits control signals to the direct current motor driving module according to the control instruction, such that motor control is realized. Wireless remote control upon the motor can be carried out by using the device wherever China Mobile cell-phone signals exist. The device can also be used in combination with remote video monitoring systems in current markets. Feedback controls such as remote starting and stopping, steering, and speed of sensitive mechanical motion devices in monitoring sites can be realized. Compared with an ISM band short-range wireless control scheme, the device provided by the invention has a substantial advantage in remote wireless control.

In order to reduce the power consumption and the size of a simulation system, solve the problems of high cost for multi-vehicle system wiring and interactive communication of all vehicles, and improve the real-time performance of the simulation system, the technical scheme adopted by the invention is as follows: a simulation and authentication device for a multi-unmanned-aerial-vehicle system comprises a model universal computer, a main control computer, a view display computer, an industrial control computer, a wireless AP (access point)/router and a Wi-Fi wireless communication module, wherein the industrial control computer and a CPU inside the main control computer are connected with the Wi-Fi wireless communication module through a serial port and perform communication through the wireless AP/router, and the wireless AP/router is connected with the main control computer through a network. The method and the device are mainly applicable to design and simulation of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles.

Abstract: The FireFader is a simple haptic force-feedback device that is optimized for introducing musicians to haptics. It is based upon a single-degree-of-freedom potentiometer fader coupled to a DC motor, also known as a "motorized fader." A light is connected in parallel with the motor to help communicate the force's strength visually. The FireFader consists of only open-source hardware and open-source software elements. Consequently, it is relatively easy for users to repurpose it into new projects involving varying kinds and numbers of motors and sensors. An open-source device driver for the FireFader allows it to be linked to a computer via USB so that the computer can perform the feedback control calculations. For example, the computer can simulate the acoustics of a virtual musical instrument to concurrently synthesize sound and calculate the motor force as a function of the fader position. The serial connection over USB increases the latency of the control signal compared to embedded implementations, but the serial connection facilitates easier programming via the computer, and the force feedback can be automatically disabled when the user is not touching the fader. Some new devices derived from the FireFader design are presented.

The system comprises a mechanical part and an electric control part; the mechanical part comprises a servo motor, a measured reducer, an angle measuring device, a torque sensor and a loading arm coaxially connected in sequence; all the parts are fixed on a horizontal guide rail by a bracket; the measured reducer is provided with a temperature sensor; the electric control part comprises an industrial control computer, a motion control card, a data collecting card, a counting card and a temperature collecting module; the motion control card is connected with the servo motor by a servo driver; the data collecting card is connected with a signal output end of the torque sensor and a torque monitoring end of the servo driver; the counting card is connected with a signal output end of the angle measuring device; and the temperature sensor is connected with a computer serial port by the temperature collecting card. According to the system for testing the comprehensive performance of the reducer for the robot joint, the comprehensive performance of the reducer for the robot joint can be tested; and the system is simple in structure, high in test precision and high in universality.

The method mainly includes: 1, utilizing programmable logic of a Zynq to realize a driving schedule of a detector to complete collection and caching of an infrared image; 2, utilizing a CPU0 (central processing unit 0) of the Zynq to operate a Linux operating system to write a Qt-based display and control interface; 3, utilizing a CPU1 of the Zynq to respond to a serial port command in real time, and setting a system parameter and a video driving chip online; 4, utilizing the programmable logic to realize algorithmic hardware acceleration and a driving schedule of a video chip. The heterogeneous multi-core infrared image processing system and method has the advantages that a structure of ARM+FPGA in an all programmable platform Zynq chip is utilized to develop the heterogeneous multi-core infrared image processing system, design difficulty of hardware is remarkably reduced, a system bandwidth chokepoint brought by interconnection of conventional framework chip levels is removed, simplicity and flexibility in design and integration of a user IP (internet protocol) are realized, and high universality is realized.

The battery internal resistance on-line measuring instrument realizes the on-line measurement by using an AC signal injected battery and utilizing phase lock amplification filtering technology, and is high in anti-interference capability. The measurement precision reaches below 0.01megaohm, and the battery internal resistance on-line measuring instrument is especially effective for measuring the internal resistance of large-power batteries. The battery internal resistance on-line measuring instrument allows stably painting of change curve of relation between a battery charging and the internal resistance under different conditions, comprehensively evaluates the performance of the battery and realizes intelligent measurement.

Abstract: The invention discloses an automatic serial port protection circuit, and belongs to the electronic field. The automatic serial port protection circuit comprises a detector, a timer connected with an output end of the detector, a serial port switch which receives output signals of the timer, and an electrical level transformation protection circuit which outputs signals to the detector and is in two-way transmission with the serial port switch. Through the arrangement of the automatic serial port protection circuit, the defects that in the prior art, automatic detection is not realized, a circuit for opening and closing a serial port does not exist, and the working state of other hardware can be affected easily if a problem exists when the serial port is in an active state are overcome; and the serial port can be opened and closed automatically according to the active state of the serial port. Meanwhile, due to the fact that the timer is arranged on the automatic serial port protection circuit, a user can set the maintaining time of the movement of the serial port; and when the timer shows that the maintaining time is exceeded, the serial port closes automatically. The automatic serial port protection circuit is simple in implementation mode, low in cost and suitable for popularization and use.

Abstract: In this paper, a Fast Fuzzy processor FP is proposed. This processor, which is implemented using FPGA, has four inputs and one output with 8-bits width for each. The proposed processor is synthesized, functionally verified and implemented using Xilinx Integrated Software Environment ISE and is tested using Xilinx Spartan 3E starter kit. A PC Graphical User Interface GUI is programmed using C# programming language to select and download the parameters of the processor through the serial port communication. The proposed processor is experimentally tested through water sprinkler system example. The experimental results approve the excellent performance of the proposed processor.

A field-programmable gate array (FPGA) may be coupled to a processor via a data bus. A serial flash memory may be coupled to the FPGA via a serial interface. The FPGA may be programmed to emulate a parallel interface by converting a serial data stream of boot code or operating software received from the serial flash memory to a parallel data stream to effect parallel data transfer over the data bus to the processor. The FPGA may be responsive to respective logic signals set by the processor to start access to the serial flash memory by pointing to at least one predefined location corresponding to at least one starting address of data to be transferred to the processor without using a plurality of address lines to access the serial flash memory.
