TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method that allows a consumer to monitor the electrical power usage in a residence is disclosed, where the electrical use may be monitored at the service level, the circuit level, or at the group level.
Abstract: A system and method that allows a consumer to monitor the electrical power usage in a residence is disclosed. The electrical use may be monitored at the service level, the circuit level, or at the group level. The electrical usage is communicated to a power monitoring system using a power line communications network (PLC). The monitored electrical usage can be accessed by both the utility supplying the electricity and by the consumer or owner of the residence.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method and apparatus for on-demand resource planning for unified messaging services, where multiple clients are served by a single system, and existing system resources are allocated among all clients in a manner that optimizes system output and service provider profit without the need to increase system resources.
Abstract: The invention is a method and apparatus for on-demand resource planning for unified messaging services. In one embodiment, multiple clients are served by a single system, and existing system resources are allocated among all clients in a manner that optimizes system output and service provider profit without the need to increase system resources. In one embodiment, resource allocation and job scheduling are guided by individual service level agreements between the service provider and the clients that dictate minimum service levels that must be achieved by the system. Jobs are processed in a manner that at least meets the specified service levels, and the benefit or profit derived by the service provider is maximized by prioritizing incoming job requests within the parameters of the specified service levels while meeting the specified service levels. Thus, operation and hardware costs remain substantially unchanged, while system output and profit are maximized.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for implementing intelligent interactive service between a taxi driver and a passenger by position service and cloud computation is proposed, which includes differentiating time intervals at first; matching by a cloud computation platform according to characteristics of taxi taking in peak hours and off-peak hours, the location and the destination of the passenger and the location of the taxi delivery location of a taxi so as to create a smooth communication channel between the passengers and the driver; realizing communication between the passenger, the taxi driver by voice interphone; and finally, forming an optical order for interactive service
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for implementing intelligent interactive service between a taxi driver and a passenger by position service and cloud computation. The method includes differentiating time intervals at first; matching by a cloud computation platform according to characteristics of taxi taking in peak hours and off-peak hours, the location and the destination of the passenger and the location and the taxi delivery location of a taxi so as to create a smooth communication channel between the passenger and the driver; realizing communication between the passenger and the taxi driver by voice interphone; and finally forming an optical order for interactive service between the passenger and the taxi. By the method, problems of waste of transport capacity of the taxi industry and 'difficulty in taxi taking' of passengers are effectively solved, taxi taking efficiency is greatly improved, the 'rate of unoccupied taxis' is reduced, social cost is saved, the service quality and the service level of the taxi industry are improved, effective urban traffic management tools are provided for local traffic management departments, urban traffic environments are effectively improved, and the traffic quality is enhanced for travel of the public.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mixed-integer programming model is presented for the cargo allocation problem in a liner shipping network, which introduces service levels for transit time requirements and optimizes the vessel speed on each leg of a service.
Abstract: The cargo allocation problem is a key strategic problem that determines the profitability of a liner shipping network. We present a novel mixed-integer programming model for this problem that introduces service levels for transit time requirements and optimizes the vessel speed on each leg of a service. These extensions to the cargo allocation problem greatly increase its realism and value for carriers. We evaluate our model on realistic data from the LINER-LIB and perform a sensitivity analysis of transit times versus bunker costs. Furthermore, we show how carriers can use our model to make data driven decisions in their operations.
