TL;DR: Experimental results show that the deployment of EASY on top of an existing SDP, namely Ariadne, enables rich semantic, context- and QoS-aware service discovery, which furthermore performs better than the classical, rigid, syntactic matching, and improves the scalability ofAriadne.

TL;DR: It is concluded that smart service systems are characterized by technology-mediated, continuous, and routinized interactions.
Abstract: Recent years have seen the emergence of physical products that are digitally networked with other products and with information systems to enable complex business scenarios in manufacturing, mobility, or healthcare. These “smart products”, which enable the co-creation of “smart service” that is based on monitoring, optimization, remote control, and autonomous adaptation of products, profoundly transform service systems into what we call “smart service systems”. In a multi-method study that includes conceptual research and qualitative data from in-depth interviews, we conceptualize “smart service” and “smart service systems” based on using smart products as boundary objects that integrate service consumers’ and service providers’ resources and activities. Smart products allow both actors to retrieve and to analyze aggregated field evidence and to adapt service systems based on contextual data. We discuss the implications that the introduction of smart service systems have for foundational concepts of service science and conclude that smart service systems are characterized by technology-mediated, continuous, and routinized interactions.

TL;DR: A survey on a selection of Cloud providers is conducted, and a taxonomy of eight important Cloud computing elements covering service type, resource deployment, hardware, runtime tuning, business model, middleware, and performance is proposed.
Abstract: With an increasing number of providers claiming to offer Cloud infrastructures, there is a lack in the community for a common terminology, accompanied by a clear definition and classification of Cloud features. We conduct in this paper a survey on a selection of Cloud providers, and propose a taxonomy of eight important Cloud computing elements covering service type, resource deployment, hardware, runtime tuning, business model, middleware, and performance. We conclude that the provisioning of Service Level Agreements as utilities, of open and interoperable middleware solutions, as well as of sustained performance metrics for high-performance computing applications are three elements with the highest need of further community research.

TL;DR: This work describes in detail the implementation of a loosely coupled integrated network which provides two kinds of roaming services, a SimpleIP service and a Mobile-IP service, and presents, in detail, two new components used to build these services.
Abstract: The combination of 3G and WLAN wireless technologies offers the possibility of achieving anywhere, anytime Internet access, bringing benefits to both end users and service providers. We discuss interworking architectures for providing integrated service capability across widely deployed 3G cdma2000-based and IEEE 802.11-based networks. Specifically, we present two design choices for integration: tightly coupled and loosely coupled, and recommend the latter as a preferred option. We describe in detail the implementation of a loosely coupled integrated network which provides two kinds of roaming services, a SimpleIP service and a Mobile-IP service. We present, in detail, two new components used to build these services: a network element called a WLAN integration gateway deployed in WLAN networks; a client software on the mobile device. For a mobile device with interfaces to both technologies, our system supports seamless handoff in the presence of overlapping radio coverage.
