TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify theoretical antecedents and consequences of commitment in relationships in a services context and reveal that affective commitment is related to trust in the partner's honesty and benevolence, quality of the outcome of the service process, and customer satisfaction with the service being delivered.
Abstract: As with all relationships, it is commonly agreed on that partners in business must have a high degree of commitment towards their relationship. If commitment is lacking, the relationship will soon come to an end. Affective commitment, that is commitment based on attraction between partners, is to be preferred over calculative commitment. The latter form of commitment is based on constant weighing of the benefits of a relationship with a partner against the costs of that relationship. Relationships based solely on calculative commitment are also most likely not to last for an extended time. This paper identifies theoretical antecedents and consequences of commitment in relationships in a services context. The results of an empirical study reveal that affective commitment is related to trust in the partner’s honesty and benevolence, quality of the outcome of the service process, and customer satisfaction with the service being delivered. The quality of the service process has an indirect effect on affective commitment, as it is related to satisfaction. Furthermore, it is shown that affectively committed customers have a much stronger intention to stay in a relationship with a service provider than calculatively committed customers.

TL;DR: In order to reduce signaling traffic and achieve better performance, this article proposes a criterion to bundle multiple functions of a virtualized evolved packet core in a single physical device or a group of adjacent devices.
Abstract: As mobile network users look forward to the connectivity speeds of 5G networks, service providers are facing challenges in complying with connectivity demands without substantial financial investments. Network function virtualization (NFV) is introduced as a new methodology that offers a way out of this bottleneck. NFV is poised to change the core structure of telecommunications infrastructure to be more cost-efficient. In this article, we introduce an NFV framework, and discuss the challenges and requirements of its use in mobile networks. In particular, an NFV framework in the virtual environment is proposed. Moreover, in order to reduce signaling traffic and achieve better performance, this article proposes a criterion to bundle multiple functions of a virtualized evolved packet core in a single physical device or a group of adjacent devices. The analysis shows that the proposed grouping can reduce the network control traffic by 70 percent.

TL;DR: In this article, a matching between advertisement and target consumer is achieved in a system which maintains consumer privacy, where computer end users, an advertising service provider and advertisers are included in the system.
Abstract: Matching between advertisement and target consumer is achieved in a system which maintains consumer privacy. Such system includes computer end users, an advertising service provider and advertisers. Computer end users subscribe to the advertising service provider. The advertising service provider sells time or other accountable units to the advertisers. The advertiser provides the advertisement. Each advertisement has accompanying demographic information or a desired affinity ranking. The end user completes a demographic questionnaire and ranks various categories of products and services. The advertising service provider sends executable filter programs which run on the end user computer to test whether a corresponding advertisement is to be downloaded and displayed. Alternatively, the user sends out a request for advertisements to the advertising service provider, and the advertising service provider finds advertisements meeting the target demographics requested by the end user or which comply with the affinity rankings.

TL;DR: This paper presents and evaluates a formal model for resource allocation of virtualized network functions within NFV environments, a problem it refers to as Virtual Network Function Placement (VNF-P), and evaluates its execution speed.
Abstract: Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) is an upcoming paradigm where network functionality is virtualized and split up into multiple building blocks that can be chained together to provide the required functionality. This approach increases network flexibility and scalability as these building blocks can be allocated and reallocated at runtime depending on demand. The success of this approach depends on the existence and performance of algorithms that determine where, and how these building blocks are instantiated. In this paper, we present and evaluate a formal model for resource allocation of virtualized network functions within NFV environments, a problem we refer to as Virtual Network Function Placement (VNF-P). We focus on a hybrid scenario where part of the services may be provided by dedicated physical hardware, and where part of the services are provided using virtualized service instances. We evaluate the VNF-P model using a small service provider scenario and two types of service chains, and evaluate its execution speed. We find that the algorithms finish in 16 seconds or less for a small service provider scenario, making it feasible to react quickly to changing demand.

TL;DR: In this paper, an on-line directory service includes a server associated with a database containing a plurality of directory listings including advertising information, and a customer subscribing to the online directory service may selectively view directory listings from the database by initiating a search research at a personal computer linked with the server.
Abstract: An on-line directory service includes a server associated with a database containing a plurality of directory listings including advertising information. A customer subscribing to the on-line directory service may selectively view directory listings from the database by initiating a search research at a personal computer linked with the server. The search request may specify a particular service or product, a particular geographical preference or other search parameters. The search request is then forwarded to the server which accesses the database and retrieves the responsive information for the customer. To place a telephone call to a service provider listed in response to the customer search request, the customer merely activates a telephone icon associated with the selected service or product provider. The server then obtains a telephone number associated with the selected provider from the database and automatically dials the telephone number. Once the telephone call is connected, the directory service establishes a voice connection extending from the customer's computer to a remote telephone device associated with the selected provider. The directory service also develops individual customer profiles for individual customers and stores these profiles in the database. The profiles, which include historical directory usage information, may be used to customize the menu screens and search results provided to the customer.
