TL;DR: SoftUDC, a virtual machine monitor, lets applications and administrative domains share physical resources while maintaining full functional isolation.
Abstract: Utility computing aims to aggregate server, network, and storage systems into a single, centrally managed pool of resources. SoftUDC, a virtual machine monitor, lets applications and administrative domains share physical resources while maintaining full functional isolation.

TL;DR: An efficient cloud workload management framework in which cloud workloads have been identified, analyzed and clustered through K-means on the basis of weights assigned and their QoS requirements is presented.
Abstract: Cloud computing harmonizes and delivers the ability of resource sharing over different geographical sites. Cloud resource scheduling is a tedious task due to the problem of finding the best match of resource-workload pair. The efficient management of dynamic nature of resource can be done with the help of cloud workloads. Till cloud workload is deliberated as a central capability, the resources cannot be utilized in an effective way. In literature, very few efficient resource scheduling policies for energy, cost and time constraint cloud workloads are reported. This paper presents an efficient cloud workload management framework in which cloud workloads have been identified, analyzed and clustered through K-means on the basis of weights assigned and their QoS requirements. Further scheduling has been done based on different scheduling policies and their corresponding algorithms. The performance of the proposed algorithms has been evaluated with existing scheduling policies through CloudSim toolkit. The experimental results show that the proposed framework gives better results in terms of energy consumption, execution cost and time of different cloud workloads as compared to existing algorithms.

TL;DR: VSN concept promises to enhance applications that involve dynamically varying subsets of sensor nodes collaborating tightly to achieve the desired outcomes, while relying on the remaining nodes to achieve connectivity and overcome the deployment and resource constraints.
Abstract: Current focus of sensor networks is on systems dedicated for a specific application. Wide variety of circumstances point to the need for sensor network deployments capable of sharing the physical network resources. We introduce the concept of virtual sensor networks (VSN) to provide protocol support for the formation, usage, adaptation and maintenance of subsets of sensors collaborating on specific tasks. VSN concept also promises to enhance applications that involve dynamically varying subsets of sensor nodes collaborating tightly to achieve the desired outcomes, while relying on the remaining nodes to achieve connectivity and overcome the deployment and resource constraints. This article explores the concept, mechanisms, and benefits of using VSN. Examples of VSN support functionality include support for nodes to join and leave VSNs, broadcast within a VSN, and merging of VSNs. VSNs will simplify application deployment, enhance performance and scalability, facilitate resource sharing, and provide a degree of physical topology independence in wireless sensor networks. Deployment of overlapping sensor networks aimed at different tasks, especially in harsh environments, will also significantly benefit when organized as VSNs over a shared infrastructure

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors address deficiencies of the art in respect to dynamic computing resource allocation, and provide a method, system and computer program product for dynamic resource allocation for disparate application performance requirements.
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to dynamic computing resource allocation, and provide a method, system and computer program product for dynamic resource allocation for disparate application performance requirements. In one embodiment of the invention, a resource allocation data processing system can include a shared resource pool including resources and a resource configurator coupled to the shared resource pool. The system further can include a service processor coupled to the resource configurator, wherein the service processor can include an application programming interface (API) exposing methods for commanding the resource configurator to configure the resources in the shared resource pool.

TL;DR: In this article, a storage management system, an article of manufacture comprising a computer readable medium, and a computer program product for saving a recovery plan file for a storage server is described.
Abstract: Disclosed are a method, a storage management system, an article of manufacture comprising a computer readable medium, and a computer program product for saving a recovery plan file for a storage management server. The storage management system has a plurality of storage management servers at sites remote from one another coupled by a server-to-server infrastructure. A recovery plan file is saved for one of the storage management servers at one of the sites by establishing the server as a source for its recovery plan file. Another storage management server at a site remote from the source server site is established as a target for the recovery plan file. The source server transmits the source recovery plan file from the source server to the target server at the remote site over the server-to-server infrastructure. The source recovery plan file is managed at the target server according to defined criteria, for placement, backup, migration and expiration under the control of the source server.
