TL;DR: AMCV proposes an ant colony optimization-based community communication strategy that dynamically bridges communities to support fast search for resources and achieves high scalability by making use of a designed community maintenance mechanism to uniformly distribute the maintenance cost of members and resources in the community, according to various member roles.
Abstract: Highly efficient distribution and management of media resources and fast content discovery are key determinants for mobile peer-to-peer video-on-demand solutions, especially in wireless mobile networks. Virtual communities making use of users' common characteristics such as interest and interaction to describe the boundary of sharing content and objects are a promising avenue for high-efficiency resource sharing. In this paper, we propose a novel ant-inspired mini-community-based video sharing solution for on-demand streaming services in wireless mobile networks (AMCV). AMCV relies on a newly designed two layer architecture and on an algorithm inspired from the indirect communication between ants via pheromone trails which enables them to discover and use shortest paths. The architecture is composed of a mini-community network layer and a community member layer. The ant-inspired algorithm enables finding the common interest of users in video content within large amounts of pseudo disorderly interactive behavior data. AMCV proposes an ant colony optimization-based community communication strategy that dynamically bridges communities to support fast search for resources. AMCV achieves high scalability by making use of a designed community maintenance mechanism to uniformly distribute the maintenance cost of members and resources in the community, according to various member roles. Simulation-based testing shows how AMCV outperforms another state-of- the-art solution in terms of a wide set of performance metrics.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a system that includes a local proxy which wirelessly accesses the physical storage of other devices via a wireless network to cache the response or content for the mobile device, in response to detecting commonalities between the mobile devices and the other devices.
Abstract: Systems and methods of social caching for device resource sharing and management are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a local proxy which wirelessly accesses the physical storage of other device via a wireless network to cache the response or content for the mobile device, in response to detecting commonalities between the mobile device and the other device. The commonalities can include, for example, common interests in users of the mobile device and the other device

TL;DR: A distributed data processing system including a general, communications network, and a plurality of local systems which each include a central processing unit, associated memory, and at least one peripheral device as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A distributed data processing system including a general, communications network, and a plurality of local systems which each include a central processing unit, associated memory, and at least one peripheral device. The control of the intercommunication is effected by respective systems intercommunication processors, each attaching one local system to the network. Each SIP has a programmed processor, a local and a network interface, and a bidirectional buffer. The system intercommunications processor will provide for address and code parameter translation, resource requesting and allocating access granting and protecting of the local resources and information objects, while sharing resources among plural requesters. Also failure management and control panel simulation is effected by the systems intercommunications processor.

TL;DR: Heterogeneous networks and the rationale behind adaptation is reviewed, implementation examples are given, and some outstanding research issues are discussed.
Abstract: The real-time requirements of continuous media call for careful resource management in distributed multimedia systems. In complex and mobile systems, however, effective resource reservation becomes almost impossible. Recent research suggests adaptive applications as a complementary solution. This article reviews heterogeneous networks and the rationale behind adaptation, gives implementation examples, and discusses some outstanding research issues.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for heterogeneous chip multiprocessors (CMPs) via resource restriction is presented, which includes the accessing of a resource utilization register to identify a resource utilisation policy.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for heterogeneous chip multiprocessors (CMP) via resource restriction. In one embodiment, the method includes the accessing of a resource utilization register to identify a resource utilization policy. Once accessed, a processor controller ensures that the processor core utilizes a shared resource in a manner specified by the resource utilization policy. In one embodiment, each processor core within a CMP includes an instruction issue throttle resource utilization register, an instruction fetch throttle resource utilization register and other like ways of restricting its utilization of shared resources within a minimum and maximum utilization level. In one embodiment, resource restriction provides a flexible manner for allocating current and power resources to processor cores of a CMP that can be controlled by hardware or software. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
