TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of shell separation on axial shielding with closed double-shell cylindrical shields is investigated numerically, and it is found that the optimum shell separation for practical, equal-thickness shields of the above type is considerably smaller than that for transverse spherical and infinitely long cylindric shields: in most cases, air gaps equal 5%−10% of the inner shell diameter are wide enough to bring the shielding to 90% of its maximum.
Abstract: The effect of shell separation on the axial shielding with closed double-shell cylindrical shields is investigated numerically. It is found that the optimum shell separation for practical, equal-thickness shields of the above type is considerably smaller than that for transverse spherical and infinitely long cylindrical shields: in most cases, air gaps equal 5%–10% of the inner shell diameter are wide enough to bring the shielding to 90% of its maximum. This indicates that closely spaced axial shields can be used without much sacrifice in performance. Taking into account the computed optimum shell separation for double-shell shields, one can easily optimize and design a compact and effective multishell shield. Based on the numerical study, an analytical approximation is suggested for the axial shielding with narrowly spaced double-shell cylindrical shields.

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive survey of the field of multilayer barrier analysis is presented, including analytical, numerical and experimental investigations which can be useful for elucidating general properties of multi-layered metallic shields, e.g. effect of layering, spacing and change of the order of the plates on the protective performance of shields.
Abstract: Effort to enhance protective properties of shields against high speed impact triggered investigations of the ballistic performance of multilayer barriers having different structure, their comparison with each other and with the monolithic barriers. In spite of a large number of publications on these topics there are no comprehensive surveys of this field. The goal of the present review is to close this gap. This review includes analytical, numerical and experimental investigations which can be useful for elucidating general properties of multi-layered metallic shields, e.g. effect of layering, spacing and change of the order of the plates on the protective performance of shields, and also studies which suggested analytical methods for optimization of multi-layered shields.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the emissivities of a thermal shield made from SS304L stainless steel coated with silver and showed that it can have an emissivity as low as 0.0035 at 80 K.

TL;DR: In this paper, conductive shields have contoured mating surfaces that become flat, or co-planar, at the circuit board-shield interface when the shields are fastened to opposite sides of a circuit board.
Abstract: In a shielding scheme for circuit boards, conductive shields have contoured mating surfaces that become flat, or co-planar, at the circuit board-shield interface when the shields are fastened to opposite sides of the circuit board. The contoured mating surfaces compensate for deformation of the shields resulting from the fastening so that uniform mechanical pressure is applied at all designated points along the circuit board-shield interface even though fastening points are intermittently spaced throughout the shields. When compressible conductive gaskets are optionally interposed between the shields and the circuit board, stops are included to accommodate for the thickness of the gasket. High signal isolation is achieved without correspondingly high contact area on the circuit board and without closely-spaced fastening points. Low assembly time and manufacturing cost results for shielded circuit board assemblies incorporating the shielding scheme.
