TL;DR: The radiation network method has been applied to calculate the net radiation heat transfer between two concentric hemispheres separated by two hemispherical radiation shields with temperature-dependent surface emissivities as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The radiation network method has been applied to calculate the net radiation heat transfer between two concentric hemispheres separated by two hemispherical radiation shields with temperature-dependent surface emissivities. Three different materials are chosen for radiation shields: aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and tungsten. The reduction in heat transfer with shields depends not only on the surface characteristics of the two shields, but also on the locations of the shields. Three illustrative examples are presented to illustrate the effects of temperature dependent emissivities and shield locations on the percentage heat transfer reduction. The analysis can be used to study other cases as warranted.

TL;DR: In this article, a Fortran digital computer code for the study of thermal stresses arising from the absorption of nuclear radiation in both steel and concrete annuli is described, which allows detailed calculation of the temperature and stress distributions in a shield within 12 sec when the computation was performed with the IBM 7090 digital computer.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the Faraday room that shields the CUORE experiment against electromagnetic fields, from 50 Hz up to high frequency, using panels made of light shielding materials.
Abstract: The paper describes the Faraday room that shields the CUORE experiment against electromagnetic fields, from 50 Hz up to high frequency. Practical contraints led to choose panels made of light shielding materials. The seams between panels were optimized with simulations to minimize leakage. Measurements of shielding performance show attenuation of a factor 15 at 50 Hz, and a factor 1000 above 1 KHz up to about 100 MHz.

TL;DR: This study investigates geometric properties of the magnetic coupling between the CCC and one type of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) sensor and its coupling to the shielding currents.
Abstract: Several different magnetic shield geometries were used to study cryogenic current comparator (CCC) operation with thallium-based thick film superconducting shields at 77 K. These shields are found to have good magnetic shielding properties and to support low-level persistent currents. This study investigates geometric properties of the magnetic coupling between the CCC and one type of superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) sensor. The sensitivity of the SQUID and its coupling to the shielding currents limit ten-to-one CCC resistance ratio measurements to approximately 0.2 /spl mu//spl Omega///spl Omega/ in relative uncertainty.
