TL;DR: In this paper, an all-optical wavelength converter using a polymeric Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) comprised of an excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) dye, 2,2′-{oxybis[4-(methoxyphenyl)quinoline-6,2-diyl]}bis(5-methoxideyphenol) (MQ).
Abstract: We designed and demonstrated an all-optical wavelength converter using a polymeric Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) comprised of an excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) dye, 2,2′-{oxybis[4-(4-methoxyphenyl)quinoline-6,2-diyl]}bis(5-methoxyphenol) (MQ). This MZI wavelength converter is composed of the MQ dye-doped polymeric waveguide and a thick light blocking metal film. A feature of this device is that one arm of the MZI can be irradiated by 355 nm pulses (signal beam), while the other arm was not, thus allowing a differential phase shift in the submicrosecond time scale. Because of the refractive index change of the ESIPT dye in one arm of interferometer upon irradiation with the signal beam, phase modulation of the continuous-wave probe light propagating in the irradiated arm of the MZI takes place, leading to the intensity modulation at the output defined by the signal beam, resulting in an all-optical wavelength converter, that is, the conversion of the signal modulation to output si...

TL;DR: Measurements of the dependence of the phase-conjugate reflectivity on signal frequency for Brillouinenhanced four-wave mixing at pump intensities above the threshold instability show that the frequency of the conjugate beam is independent of thefrequency of the input signal beam in the unstable regime.
Abstract: We present measurements of the dependence of the phase-conjugate reflectivity on signal frequency for Brillouin-enhanced four-wave mixing at pump intensities above the threshold instability. The measurements were made in TiCl4 at λ = 1 μm and are consistent with a computer model of the reflectivity. We have observed that the frequency of the conjugate beam is independent of the frequency of the input signal beam in the unstable regime.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of optical modulation, the method comprising irradiating an optical switch with a control beam at a first control time and irradiating the optical switch with a signal beam at a signal time. The transmitted intensity of the signal beam in a direction depends on the delay time between the first control time and the signal time and the transmitted intensity of the signal beam in the direction is detectably different than a static signal. The optical switch comprises a nanorod array, the nanorod array comprising a plurality of nanorods extending outwardly from a substrate.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of resonance radiation diffusion due to radiation trapping has been studied in an atomic vapor imaging filter using a cesium resonance fluorescence imaging monochromator, and it was shown that there is a compromise between maximum optical density and spatial resolution.

TL;DR: In this article, an optical information reproduction method for reproducing information using holography from a medium which records an interference pattern generated when overlapping a signal beam and a reference beam was proposed.
Abstract: In an optical information reproduction method for reproducing information using holography from a medium which records an interference pattern generated when overlapping a signal beam and a reference beam, the reference beam is radiated to the medium at a reference beam angle with a predetermined range for reproducing the information, a reproduction beam is generated by diffracting the reference beam with the interference pattern, the reproduction beam is detected by a photodetector; and the information is reproduced by processing a signal detected by the photodetector.
